Believe it or not, we harvested some jackfruits in the backyard despite having monsoon rains these past few days. Some of them are not ripe yet. But then, we decided to pick them and let be ripen in the house. A simple way of doing it is to put sticks in the upper part and thrust the stick into the core of the fruit. I got a good one and cut into pieces. Honestly, I don’t eat jackfruit’s meat much. Thus, I prefer to have the seeds and let be boiled in the pot. Once it’s done, then I have a snack to munch. It tastes like peanuts if I may say. “Do you like eating boiled jackfruit’s seeds?” “Which do you prefer, jackfruit’s meat or the seeds?” Image Credit: Shavkat

I guess you don't like the smell? For me, I don't like jackfruit's meat that much. At least, I can eat them now. During my childhood years, I really don't like it. But then, I prefer to have the boiled jackfruit's seeds.

@Shavkat I eat it but a small amount of it just to satisfy my taste. And I like it when my grandmother makes it a candy spread.

I love boiled jackfruit seeds, sometimes my wife buys seeds only, I eat it with a pinch of salt or at times with thin slices of cheddar. I can eat a lot, it's like peanuts very hard to stop once you start it.

I agree. The jackfruit's seeds are bigger than the peanuts in the market.lol I was listening to my mom yesterday and said, the seeds are more expensive than the fruit's meat in the market. I haven't tried eating with cheddar. I'll try to do that.

@Shavkat actually It's like " nilagang mani" or boiled peanuts, a long time ago I posted something about peanuts and there are I think a lot of members who have never tasted peanuts boiled together with the shell, its like it's strange to them, it's my favorite cause its not oily, we pressure cook peanuts and jackfruit seeds to save on time and lpg.

@louievill That's a good idea in cooking the so-called "'big peanuts." I wanted to share this discussion and know if some members are not aware of this.

@Sojourn I am sure that many fruits we have here do not grow in tropical climate. I like apricots, pears, pomegranates, figs, all those fruits grow here.

i like the seeds of the 'langka' (jackfruit) but the main meat of the fruit; you know, that yellow thing covering the seeds, i like it when mixed with the 'halo-halo', but when eaten fresh, all of my body secretions and discharges will smell like the fruit itself (pee, poop, sweat, even body smell [odor])

I used to love eating jackfruit seeds back in the day when I was a kid and my grandmother boiled them for us. Now, we don't do that anymore because no one bothers to cook them. I prefer to eat the jackfruit's flesh or meat especially if it's sweet.

That's nice to know, even if it is TMI, Shavkat! We don't get jackfruit here in the Midwest, so I've never tried the fruit or the nuts from it. (I do try every type of fruit I can purchase here, though.)

It seems we are having the same situation. We don't have some fruits and nuts from other countries as well. When I was in Tajikistan before. I had all the time trying all the fruits and nuts that are only available in countries with four seasons.

It is not ideal, my friend. However, we need to harvest them before it will become rotten due to monsoon rain here. If I am in the countryside, it would be fine to wait for the fruit to ripen naturally.
