"We all like to cook"

said the wife last night. We were talking about dinner, which I ended up doing a good part of the cooking for. Now, she had cut up the squash and onions and then put the sweet potatoes on to boil, but I turned on the squash and then I had cooked the chicken. We had a pretty bland supper because our guy friend, "J", wasn't feeling well. But I had seasoned and cooked the chicken thighs. So, after "J" and our new, soon-to-be roommate's mother had left, well, I took the mother back to where she is staying right now, the wife and I were talking. So, she said something about this new roommate and what we could be doing after she's moved in at the end of the month. "We all like to cook," the wife said. I kind of made a face and said: "No, I don't really like to cook." Somehow this always surprises her. "But you do it pretty well," she said. "I like to eat. If I want to eat, I have to cook," I replied. Honestly, if I can get someone else to cook for me, I'm even happier. I wash dishes, I will clean the stove, heck, I'll chop up stuff, but most of the time, I don't really enjoy cooking. Not to say that I can't cook, I do actually enjoy cooking vegetable soup, but most of the work on that is chopping up stuff, and I don't have a problem chopping up stuff. I know, I'm weird.

Not everybody likes to cook, I know many who do not. I personally like a lot cooking, but now washing dishes.

My chore growing up was washing the dishes. Mostly it was loading the dishwasher, so I don't mind doing that. Unloading it... that was my sister's chore.

@LadyDuck I hate hand washing dishes, and I can't tollerate water as hot as it can get with a dishwasher.

@ElicBxn I wash my dishes manually most of the time, we are only two and I would anyway wash the glasses manually.

I would love to learn how to make sushi. I am pretty selective when it comes to cooking, but when I put my mind to it, I'm sure I can cook a feast. Ha..

The time I tried sushi I didn't care for it. Just not that into fish I guess. I'll eat it, but I'd rather eat something else first. Except shrimp, I do like shrimp. I think part of liking shrimp is how much I love red sauce (cocktail sauce)...

@ElicBxn I can't take certain fish. Sushi is all about the culinary arts if you look at it closely. There's eggs, salmon, seaweed, mushroom and many more ingredients to it.

Just as long as you don't start chopping up roommates...

I like to eat, however, because of my food allergies, a lot of the short cuts aren't available for me.

You like chopping it up but putting it in the pot and on the stove to cook is hectic indeed.

One thing I have no trouble cooking is anything with noodles, I love noodles. I joke around and say that I'm a "carbovor" meaning that I'd eat carbs before much of anything else.

for example, we had pulled ground turkey yesterday, but ended up waiting to cook it today - but the wife was having a very bad day today and that meant either I cooked or we ate frozen food out of the freezer or I went to get something out. I told her that I'd make "cheeseburger macaroni" which is mac and cheese with ground meat. Since she wasn't feeling good and I didn't want to go out to get food, she let me do it.

I really don't like to cook either. You are not alone. I do like to eat though.

So you would rather be the Sous Chef than the actual cook. I'm a bit of the opposite. I loathe cutting up veggies but I will cook the meat, watch the potatoes etc.

I guess so, I think its because I've ruined so many meals over the years that I don't want to ruin anymore. I'll agree that I haven't ruined any in a long time, in fact, the wife thinks I cook bacon better than she does, in part because while I was doing home health for @Maggiepie I cooked for her, and one point she was eating a lot of protein, including bacon. Mind you, I'd cook a pound and she'd make it last the entire weekend.

I love to cook but i do not love to cook for myself. Unfortunately, my cat Sid will not cook for me so no matter what I have to prepare meals for myself. Problem is that food just doesn't taste as good when you are alone so I eat sitting at my laptop.

The wife and I normally eat at our individual computers, but last night we had company, and we don't do that when we have company. We will see what happens after the new roommate comes in, but I suspect she'll be sleeping when we are normally eating, so it'll probably continue.

It's not that you're weird. It's not necessary that everyone has to like cooking. I like to do cooking once in a month.

I probably wouldn't mind cooking a bit more, if its easy. I can stick chicken in the oven and bake it, or boil noodles and heat up a can of spaghetti sauce.
