I get bored and so I need to time it or else I won't brush long enough. Maybe, if I had done that earlier in my life then I would now still have good teeth.

You've done well and you are taking a lot longer than most people that have replied.

@LadyDuck They will be needed till the last day and they are easier to find when they are still in the mouth.

@1hopefulman You are right and I have heard that fake teeth are not that good.

So, you follow the steps of brushing, flossing, and then brushing again? I guess if one wants to have good teeth they have to work for it. Great, that you take the time to do such a good job.

@DianneN Yes, but when you flash him a smile then he must realize that healthy teeth don't happen by themselves.

@1hopefulman I have no choice. I wore braces for 200 years. My husband complains that I spend too much time in the bathroom.

@1hopefulman Not entirely. My teeth are somehow not strong.

@brokekid0212 Have you found any way to make them stronger?

I don't have the patience it would take to spend 4 minutes. I try to spend 30 seconds on each quarter of my mouth, so 2 minutes in total, but sometimes I shorten it a bit! I do try to brush carefully though.

I have been doing the 4 minutes and wish I had known and done that when my teeth were healthy.

I try to brush for more than 3 minutes. Of course I never really time it.

@Shellyann36 Great! What's important is that the teeth stay healthy and in the mouth.

@1hopefulman Not bad, I floss regularly as well and that helps tremendously. I actually floss quite a bit. I use dental sticks the way most people use toothpicks.

It usually take me 5 minutes. I brush gently and thoroughly. And I use a tiny toothbrush.. I think it works best at taking care of my teeth than the bigger ones.

@toniganzon That's good to hear! So it paid off to brush a few extra minutes.

I think I have less than two minutes to brush my teeth. Four minutes is too long for me.

I think most people only take a minute or so but many people have problems with their teeth.

@1hopefulman Every time I use a toothbrush to brush the inside of my teeth, I feel like vomiting. I do not know why.

I have a timer on my electric toothbrush which lets me know I have been brushing 2 minutes. That is what they recommended. 4 min. seems a bit long for me, but I do use Listerine afterwards to kill bacteria. I guess this is one of those debatable topics where expert opinions are at odds with each other?

@1hopefulman That man is an anomaly for sure. I guess it never hurts to be on the safe side with your teeth. Perhaps the extra time is helpful in reaching those hard to get areas.

I never timed myself. Too much brushing can be harsh on dental enamel.

I have heard from reliable sources that two minutes is not enough and that we should brush for 4 minutes. I'll have to ask my dentist what he thinks? But I better ask quickly before all my teeth are gone.
