Chores are meant for girls?

It is sickening That 90% of homes in Africa think that all the domestic work in the house is meant for the girl child. They fail to associate equality to both genders. Everything is left for the girl regardless of her feelings and other personal engagement that she might have. It is believed that it is the process of training her to be a better woman. Less attention is paid to the boys in the house. No wonder they grow up with unrealistic sense of entitlement and expectations from females. Can this narrative change completely?

It is very true that 90% of homes in Africa let the females do the housework. I imagine once married the African lady would cook and clean. Once a parent she would be a stay at home mum. I think boys need to know how to cook and clean in their home. Therefore the men will be able to live well and care for themselves.

Exactly. They wouldn't just be doing it for the home but for themselves in the long run. It will teach them to be independent of women.

It is an irritating behavior that needs to change. I'll do that by raising my kids the same. They don't have to feel different.

It can be changed by how they are being raised.

I think that it is not only being practiced in Africa. At least, there is still a 5% for men to do it. In some Muslim countries, all women should do the household chores. We cannot bend the culture for this matter.

@Keibah In the modern world, I think it is not acceptable.

@Shavkat It should be about you and every other person having an opinion and changing what's wrong. Not about what a particular society wants regardless.

Do you believe that this should be an acceptable culture?

I think that is where the main focus should be. These girls need to know that there's more to life than cooking.
