My Neighbors Talk

Sometimes, when sitting at my desk, I can hear my neighbor's conversations. I do not eavesdrop but the voices come from a spot next to my computer. Yesterday, I heard my neighbor interviewing someone to do some work around her place. The last thing I heard was "How old are you?" The person said he was 20 and then the conversation shut off. At times, I hear conversations that are juicier than that. I don't know why I hear this stuff. I wish I didn't. Do your neighbors talk? What do they say?

My neighbours only talk when they need some help.

@akalinus I would prefer when I need help. LOL. Kidding. I am quite lucky...they help. And me too. But I do keep a bit of distance.

@vandana7 I have found that it is better not to get too chummy with the neighbors. We have helped people but there has to be a limit.

I do not hear my neighbors talking, we are far enough not to hear enough to understand what they say.

@akalinus My neighbors are not very far, but there are our two gardens that separate the house. Sometimes I hear they speak, but I cannot hear what they say.

@LadyDuck I like that the houses are separated by gardens and green places. My neighbor's trailer is about six feet from mine. That is way too close.

All the neighbors are close here. We used to live where the nearest neighbor was a quarter mile away, now I live in a place where I can see and hear them.

My neighbor is constantly scolding her kids. Sometimes I feel like picking my broom stick and going to her place and beat her up. I think I love her little girl more than she loves her. I can't bear the thought of her being beaten up. That is as honest as I can get.

@akalinus Nope. That little girl comes to me the moment their door opens and mine is open too. She does like me. I am enjoying that adulation. LOL

Wow, I don't suppose they have any type of child protective agency where you live. Just show the little girl all the love you can. She will remember when she grows up.

At work, I can hear my co-workers in their offices very clearly. Sometimes, I hear a lot of things I really don't wan to hear. And knowing that everything we say at work can be heard, I try to never have personal or sensitive conversations in my office.

That is a good idea. I know that if I hear neighbors, they can hear me. It works on the nerves knowing this but you need to talk to people and talk on the phone.

@akalinus There is a banyan tree near my house. Around 9.30 p. m.at night some people gather there and keep talking and discussing.Sometimes they talk about their family disputes, but mostly the topic of discussion is politics. Most of them are supporters of the ruling party - the BJP - and prime minister ModI.

So you hold discussions about life and politics in the shade of a banyan tree? How interesting! I love it.

@Shivram59 Maybe I should plant a banyan tree. It sounds like it is very important to your life.

@akalinus LOL!! In India you will see people in small towns and villages assembling under huge, old trees discussing their family matters, religion and politics. It's really a wonderful experience.Would you believe if I tell you that I learned Hindi, elementary English and maths under a banyan tree.Trees play an important role in the life of a Hindu.

What do you mean by client? Are you a lawyer? If so, tell her not to say stuff that she should not say. Whatever, don't trust her.

We are not close enough to hear our neighbors. They are rather quiet. I suppose if they yelled we would hear what they are saying. The house on the other side is vacant.

It is good not to hear them much. Private stuff should be private. Right now, the space on one side of me is vacant but will be filled in the winter.

I dont like it when the walls are thin. My upstairs neighbors constantly fight and argue. They take their dirty laundry out on the balcony where the WHOLE neighborhood can hear it.

I have a couple as a neighbour. They do not talk, they quarrel. Both of them throw abuses now and then to each other. Their best time to talk..... err quarrel is when I go to the bedroom to sleep.

I hate when I hear them in the bedroom. A woman used to sit under my bedroom window talking on the phone. She put it on speaker so I heard everything.

Oh my goodness. I totally identify with you. I can hear every conversation by the neighbors below me. They are so loud! I heard one of them the other day say, "Sheila is in jail". I really wish they learned the value of quiet.

I am not very close to my neighbors so I rarely hear chatter..if I do, it is usually too indistinct to make out. I just can hear voices sometimes but not what they are saying.

That is good. My problem is in the acoustics in this place. Voices skip and sometimes they are right beside me. Right now, I hear a party across the street at the rec area.

In our current home we can't hear the neighbors, but in our previous home we heard more than enough. The neighbors were often arguing. They yelled a lot of bad things at eachother and sometimes it sounded like they smashed their possessions. They also loved loud music...

@akalinus Noise from upstairs neighbors can be a big problem. In one of the apartments where I lived in the past there was a lot of noise from upstairs. We used to joke about it. We said that the woman who lived there probably kept an elephant as a pet and had decided to teach it to dance. At least it sounded that way sometimes

I hear that. I lived with my son for a while. It sounded like the neighbors upstairs were bowling in the middle of the night. Another neighbor had parrots and a dog that moaned all the time.

@Porcospino Elephants are funny. They could be noisy because it would not be the neighbors. We used to joke about my son's neighbors. We said they are having bowling tournaments and chair throwing contests.

I've got good sound proofing here. The most conversations I hear is when my window is open and someone is outside. I have no idea though what they say as they are all Spanish.

I have no soundproofing whatsoever here. I can get the gist of conversations in Spanish, unfortunately. At least, I understand some words used when they fight.

@Peach10 Punching each other is pretty radical. I did see a fight the other day. The husband took the wife's cell phone and they were rolling around on the lawn hitting each other. Another woman was yelling at him to give her phone back.
