Limericks Anyone?

My friend @ARM keeps pestering me to write some limericks and she's promised to reply 'in kind'. We'd be delighted if any of you would leave contributions too (not mandatory!}
Limericks are meant to be comical,
whimsical, silly, nonsensical,
when all's said and done
they're meant to be fun
who cares if they are illogical?
A limerick has 5 lines with the 1st, 2nd and 5th rhyming and of the same length, and the 3rd and 4th shorter, but also rhyming with each other.
I was telling my man that I knew
that at our age our days could be few,
but after I stated
that I'd be cremated,
he said sweetly, will next Monday do?
Feel like having a go yourself?

Good too see you back with a bang
Around you I just like to hang
Your rhymes give me kicks
And oh the limericks
They are filled with fun and a tang

There was a poet called Arthur
Who found limericks a great deal harder
Than writing haiku
(which he likes to do)
Shakespearean sonnets are even Bard-er

Your flowers are beautiful. I love them.
I'm going to make an attempt.....here goes...…
I have a friend on myLot
Who loves to put posies in the pots
They bloom all summer long
And she's many to show off
I hope that nobody steals them or they'll get caught!
And let's just hope that this doesn't happen, okay?

@jaboUK it's amazing how you're able to put several in one pot so they're a medley of colors, shapes and textures.

@hereandthere Sometimes I'm guilty of putting too many in and have to take some out when they start fighting for room.

Well done. I am not good at limericks. Best I can do to join in the fun is just write what comes to mind.
My cat Sid is really sassy,
he thinks he's so classy
with his big fluffy tail
when he goes by
it looks like he has a big chassy.

@jaboUK you're welcome. I thought it would be fun to try. I am a free verser so anything else has me baffled. However, I have joined some groups in G+ which offer challenges like different poetic forms and I do give it a try now and then. It's just all the syllable counting that is not too productive to my inspiration.

Again, gorgeous flowers.
Here goes off the top of my head and quickly as I'm pressed for time, as usual. Lol! No judging!
There once was a big black cat
Who ate until he got fat
Along came his sister
Who said, Listen up Mister
Fat boys wind up in the vat!

I have a favorite Limerick that I wrote in response to any conversation about people I don't care for or who otherwise rub me the wrong way:
I once knew a gal from Mantuey.
She named her cat Baboey.
When asked 'bout those mates,
All she could relates,
Was to look at me square and say Pewey.

Ok, here we go...
Being here on myLot as you can see
Limericks are not really my cup of tea
But, I'll give it a shot
Like it or not
But this limerick is by ME

@Shellyann36 now that your nerve took such a hard beating maybe your nerve won't get in the way next time.
Shellyann sure has some nerve
To think her words had swerve
She took off her hat
And said , "That was that!"
Released now is her reserve.
That was done without looking for a better word for swerve.

Doing our limericks with friends
Used to go on without end
Our dear friend is gone
From him we'll get none
I'm sad but I'll try to pretend
To Barry I raise my glass
At times he was such an *
His humor was dry
His rhymes made me cry
He was truly the head of the class
Their limericks were second to none
Their quips they would match one for one
First from her then from him
Some fresh and some prim
Neither Jabo or Barry undone

We're missing our Barry this day
he would have jumped into the fray,
he stood out from the herd
he'd have had the last word,
with us he'd have come out to play.

You are too good at this Janet and we are going to miss the limericks by Barry, but I want to make a try:
I knew an old sailor named Lou
who would sit on a boat eating stew
have no fear, he would say
you can come for the play
then we'll eat my dessert at the zoo.

@jaboUK "She even suggested I make a poem about the pestering if that's what it took to get me to do it" - now that's persistent!

You may well ask,
Why I set Janet the task.
Of writing in rhyme,
Time after time ,
Well, lots of poets it does unmask.

If it's poets you want to unmask
You can start one yourself then just ask
You may need help with the shouting
To involve more mylotters takes scouting
Much easier to give jabo that task

My friend loves to write limericks. He actually just published his 3rd limerick book.
I've written a few limericks before... Not sure if they were perfect in terms of rhythm/flow but they were not bad I think.
Here's one I just came up with at the top of my head. Not edited.
I woke up with a smile on my face
But that smile quickly turned to grimace
When I saw a bee
Very close to me
I ran the heck out of this place

@jaboUK I remember I good some good grades in high school for writing some Limericks but I don't remember them all. I don't know if this was word for word but I kinda remember one being something like:
There was a young girl from Mindaire,
who was always in a hurry.
Never late for class,
let's hope she can pass,
or she'll spend her days serving McFlurries.
Mindaire was the high school I was at so meaning she was never late for her classes at the Mindaire High School.
And just in case it's not served over there but McFlurries are ice creams from McDonalds. ( just in case it wasn't know there ).

@jaboUK I don't know how you are prouncing it but Mindaire does rhyme with hurry.
Min-dar-reeee Ha-reeee Mc-fleeer-reeee
Was only 16 when it was written. Also could be the Aussie spin to how they are said.
