I wonder how many of you, dear friends have had an annual review concerning a child with special needs and how did it go.I called for a meeting with my son's school after expressing my wish to de-register him.I found out that other professionals will be present a the meeting and will appreciate any advice how to prepare myself and what to take into consideration
Many thanks
Anna

I do agree.I saw in person their professionalism and dedication, but this is not the right school for my son.He has Asperger syndrome and is much more intellectually advanced than the others. He has good math skills, exellent vocabulary and talks majority of the time with adults.I wanted him to find friends his own age,but is impossible considering the fact that most of the children cannot hold a conversation at all.My son just does not belong there,no matter the school receives more than £10000 to educate him.

It would depend on the special need of your child and your reasons for de-registering him. Only you know your child and what he needs.

@AAichka The education system is probably a lot different in the UK than in Canada. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I live in the UK and my son went to a mainstream school because he learned to talk at 3 years old. He is now in Year 6 and will be going to secondary school in September. I applied to get my son a Health and Education Care Plan and it was rejected. My son is high for care and high for mobility. He is in a wheelchair. Speak to the school SENCO about what your wish to do.

I have a son with Aspergers and I Home School all of my children. We as parents know them best and know what they need the most. Don't let anyone tell you what's best for your child and don't let them make you feel less than. God has equipped us with what we need to teach and raise our kids. =)

I am considering taking him out of school. He is very intelligent boy with very good school report and cannot be placed in a school where the children are very intellectually challanged. He stays alone all day long and this is not what I wanted when he joined this school.

My 4 year old boy has a delay in speech. We always talk to him and correct his pronunciation in a fun and entertaining manner for his agem

I think it depends on what special needs the child has. In some cases the government will not let you remove them from school. You do not say what other professionals will be present or what the particular special need is. I have worked with the adult disabled, some of whom have regretted being removed from school, some have not. Some have continued their education by going on to college.Children and schools are very individualized.

My son has Asperger syndrom.I was home schooling him for 3 years and the only reason to send him to school was the social interactions with children of his age and building up friendships.Majority if the children in his school are very challenged intellectually and my son can't have a normal conversation with anyone.Others have anger issues and stay most of the time with an adult. My son had a very good school report and even had some "above expected levels",meaning that he can be placed in a mainstream school despite having Educational care plan. The professional attending the meeting will be :headteachet,SEN officer,GP and a perhaps mental health worker.

Would it be advantageous for him if you deregister him? Maybe he needs to be in a school for special children.

He needs to be in a school for mild learning disability not severe. My son reads perfectly well, can write his own stories, has good math skills, computing skills,he is logical thinkee, but has problems with social interaction
How can he be successful in such a school where most of the students are severely disabled physically and intelectually.
