What to give a mom who's just gave birth?

My niece just gave birth and of course it's normal to buy a gift for the baby but what about the mother? Shouldn't the mother get something after all the "hard work"? What do you all think? What should I buy her (not her baby)? What's good?

A packet of contraceptives. My neice had four children before the age of 30.

My niece is 30+ I think, and this is her first child. I'm sure the clinic where she lives would advise her about contraception.

I'm afraid I'm not too close to her to know her taste in clothes. Besides, I wouldn't know her size and would be too embarrassed to ask.

That is an appreciative thought from your side. Most of the people will provide gifts to baby alone. Good and you can provide some fruits or some nutritional foods for her.

A kit containing champagne, chocolates, sweets and other things that she might have not taken in last couple of months but love those things.

i went through the responses. i agree with the fresh and dried fruits, chocolates and cake, even ice cream. maybe add nuts? healthy cold or hot drinks in single serve sizes? i also agree with the pampering like massage, facial, hair treatment, mani/pedi or foot spa.

I was thinking of a spa voucher for her to use to pamper herself after her confinement period. It will do her good.

The mom deserves something for herself, why not some beauty creams or a book about how to take care of her baby.

@UmiNoor I think that this book is a good idea, young moms have plenty of questions and a book can give the answers.

It's easy to find gifts for baby but for the new mom, I don't know what's appropriate. People always forget the mom. I think the mom also need to get gifts after all the hard labor!

As she needs nutrition after giving birth, you can give her dry fruits and health drink.

It's nice that you want to give her something. Maybe some flowers may be nice. Or maybe even a home made meal. When I gave birth to my second, a friend brought over a bunch of homemade food, which was so nice and appreciated. We did the same for a neighbour who gave birth soon after I gave birth to my second.

For me, I would give a perfume she dearly loves. Clothes maybe nice too, but she still have those fats from child bearing so, clothes are appropriate when she lost those fats again.

A gift card to a nice restaurant or a spa day, and if you're close enough a promise to babysit while she enjoys either.

Make them a freezer meal. Go clean their house one day. Give her a gift card for a massage.

You can gift her with anything that she likes. But the best gift would be to be a support system for her. It is an overwhelming time for her and she needs it the most.

A well-wish card, healthy tonics and a prayer.
