One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Proverbs 12:9 "Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food."
How real is that?
So many of us go through life pretending to be somebody we're not. Who was it that said, "Be yourself. Everyone else is taken" ?
I can be a much better me than anyone else could be. I also could never be a better you.
We've all known people who pretended to be more than who they really were. It's like at Halloween when kids dress up in costumes and pretend to be different creatures. But when the night's over (or the young adult years are over), we go back to who we really are.
I don't want to waste another minute trying to be richer, smarter, better looking, more intelligent, whatever.
I just want to be a nobody and have a servant. I sure don't want to be a somebody and have no food.

It's probably like when Americans try to use a French accent. So fake.

I agree. It's great to have enough money to pay our bills, but there are an awful lot of miserable rich people.

does being "a nobody and yet have a servant" mean to be rich but not show it? just quietly growing your riches and what to pass on to your children? but what about involvement in the community?

I think the verse means to be our true selves, maybe having riches, but not bragging about it than to pretend to be so special and famous, while not even having enough food. Just be who we are.

It was a slightly different life style back then. Its not the best example but the only one I can think of this morning..
Being a servant back then was kinda like working at a big company today... It put food on the table, roof over the head, and unlike today, kinda came with medical
I love the verse. It makes me think its great to be nobody and provide for another .. Than to be hungry and struggling because your trying to be what your not!
