The house is all mine but...

Yesterday night I was all excited. Both my daughters had school trip today. Elder one gone for three days and younger one will be back by tomorrow evening. I thought to do a lot as I thought the house will be quiet and I will have less "Ma mama mama " interruption. My elder one is used to school trips and she has gone for week long trips too. But for my younger one it is the first time when she has gone for a night away. The house was empty by 7 AM. I rolled my sleeves for a lot to be done..BUT after regular chores...I felt an emtpiness...there was a weird silence...no sibling fights, no cherubic laughter, no guitar or recorder being played. Nobody to talk in basketball shorts while dibbling the ball in living room. I was distracted by the silence. Went out for lunch with husband. Well, this was supposed to be like a lunch date but we kept talking about our kids. We could not order things on menu because we can not have it without them Back home while cooking, I kept waiting for doorbell to ring as they will be back from their playtime and then soon realized they are gone for a trip. I am missing them too much. This is my first night when I have not kissed my younger one before coming to sleep.

So glad you got the space and peace but I know what you mean. The silence is so lonesome without kids haha

@arunima25 Yes it is so very strange. In any case I hope they both have a good time. You only have the two daughters?

@arunima25 this morning, my son once again told me that he will just buzz the doorbell when he is home. again, i reiterated that he should text if he will come home late (yesterday at 6PM, he texted they have meeting). i told him with firm conviction:"do you know how a mother feels when you come home late?"

@ridingbet They will know once they are parent. I did not know all these years of growing up and giving my mom all the teenage trouble. Now I know it

Once a mother, always a mother. I hardly remember any moment in last 14 years when I have not thought or behaved like a mother.

They grow up fast and the silence can be deafening when they are away.

I feel for you. My husband and I felt the same when our boys spent their summers at overnight camp. Once they returned home, we wanted to send them right back!

Oh dear. It's strange how we can look forward to something then find it is not so much fun after all. I hope the remaining time goes quickly for you.

Being alone is not always what it is cut out to be, Makes you always think of the other person wishing they were there with you, Try and enjoy this time alone

At least it's only temporary - give it a few years and they'll be gone for good. That does take some getting used to.

I hope it is temporary though uncertain of the extent or duration. I am getting used to it and have found a new productive routine to follow and be engaged.

I was looking forward to a silent house to finish some important writing work. But now I realize that I am more creative with a sibling fight going around me

So you are uncomfortable with the silence before the storm. Let them get back then you can enjoy the storm.
