The heat we are having is no fun, but good things happen anyway. While we were getting ready for that sale we went to on Saturday, I was on my way to the garage to get something for Anne. This lovely butterfly flitting around stopped me in my tracks and I went in to get a camera.
He left but returned to this yellow Dahlia that Anne had sitting on a table, so I was able to get a good photo.
That evening, standing on the patio, I saw the Cooper's Hawk swoop in toward the bird feeder. He spotted me, circled to the right and was about ten feet away coming toward me when he soared upward. That was quite a site.
I really like seeing unusual things like this.

I wish our heat was over, we will be near 100F (38C) for three days again, after many hot ones for days in a row.

I can imagine how hot it is there. We have been near 100 too. Here is the hawk on my bird feeder.

@JohnRoberts, is a swallowtail, I think. Monarchs are more orange and we rarely see them here.
