Pruning Roses

Here in Australia we are in the last few weeks of winter, which means that it is time for me to get out and prune my roses. Last spring I had just moved into this house, and it was the first time I had ever pruned roses. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but I asked Mr Google and followed the advice given, and they came out quite nicely (see pic) so I'm hoping I can do as well this year. Makes up a little bit for all the veges I have managed to kill.

Oh, the thought of winter makes me feel so much better! I was surprised how complicated pruning roses was. A woman I know said she was pruning one rose bush, but found it was four different bushes that had kind of tangled themselves together to look like one.

I don't think mine had been done for a while - lots of cross growth (with bitey thorns.)

@AmbiePam The bushes mingled together could be pretty. All the different colors.

Those are beautiful and many. We have roses but not the kind you have.

Yes, when they came out the bushes were absolutely loaded.

Gardening is so much fun and sometimes very frustrating.

Your roses look very nice. My sister has just pruned all hers too.

More good luck than good management!
