Brain Size

The pet loves of my life are staying with me while their mommy and daddy set up their new house. Doodles, on the left, is the male. Kuma is the female. Notice the size difference? Notice the size of Doodles’ head? They are both 10 years old. They are both adored. However, Doodles can speak. He asks to go out. He asks for treats. He asks for “another” treat. He tells us when he’s ready. He even curses under his breath. Lol! He obeys the sit and lay down commands. He knows the names of each of his stuffed animals. In addition, he won’t go into the woods on command, since he walks in our large yard without a leash 3 to 4 times a day. He also knows his name when called. On the other hand, there is sweet little Kuma. She runs into walls. As she runs when frightened, she stops mid run to wash a shoulder or paw. She can’t control her toys when playing. They often wind up under a sofa or behind something. Do you thing brain size matters in kitties or humans?

Its all about who taught doodles and who taught Kuma. My cat actually said "mama" to me the other day, why? Because I talk to him telling him to come on, mama will feed you.

My son taught both of them. One learns. One doesn't. Just like some of my students. Lol! That is adorable! You have a very smart cat, too!

@DianneN Perhaps she is just slow to mature?

I don't know perhaps there is something there. They are both adorable. My cat Sid is of medium size and his head always looks small but he has real intelligence and knows just what he wants. Lately to be sure I pay attention he meows at the top of his lungs to be sure I hear him and he gets what he wants.

Luckily, it seems that Kuma has something going for her that makes people love her even if she isn't smart.

That is a good question about the sizes of the brains of animals and humans.

Senior cats (more than 7 years) can be said to resemble their condition with Alzheimer's disease in humans. The cognitive dysfunction syndrome suffered by senior cats is caused by damage and fragility of the brain with symptoms such as disorientation, depression, decision determination as we consider it an act strange and other behavioral behavior that tends to be anti-social. and the good news is, just like in humans, not all cats experience this.

Well, that's good to know! Thank you. The female cat has always been just plain stupid since birth, but we love her that much more for it.

I do not know if the brain size matters, but poor Kuma does not seem very smart.

It could matter some. But some just mature better than others and that makes a difference too I think. Bunny my oldest doberman was very trust worthy with everything by 6 months old. She liked playing but was much more adult acting about it. Jill her daughter is 2 now and still very puppy acting in bouncing, barking, and aggravating everything around her. But she has the brains to do right, it just is not any fun to her. She sits, stays, house trained very well, comes when she isnt telling me off about not wanting too. That one can be very funny as she dont run away, just very verbally lets me know she dont want too. She just has not matured yet mentally.

They do have interesting personalities. It shows cats have a lot of human qualities when it comes to the brain. I don't think it's the size of the brain, but what they've learned to do.

Lol that is pretty funny but I'm not sure how true it is about their brain size. I assume they all have similar size brains like humans. I know make cats who don't get fixed will get larger heads as they get older.

lol I think some cats pay attention and others don't. We actually had a cat who would pee in the toilet, it was pretty darn cute.

I suspect that Doodles is extra smart, and perhaps Kum is just average. Any way, they both look lovely.

oh, i did not think about that but maybe it is the density of the brain that matters? like a person who has a big head, it does not necessarily mean he has a big brain. hahaha. that is a perception here even in school.
