Since our move, several months ago, my reusable shopping bags have been missing.
At first I expected them to turn up. Then I began to actively search....nothing...no bags to be found.
From time to time I don't mind using the plastic grocery store bags....but I resent having to pay for them.
Last week, I said, enough! I don't want to buy new ones....i
An hour later I had made a test model.....the next day I refined the pattern and now have four practical, attractive, reusable shopping bags.

Great job! I have some reusable bags but they aren't nearly as nice as yours

I refused to spend money on them....so far my expense is $1. For a package of hair elastic a to make button loops.

I didn't throw them away. I distinctly remember the bag...packed with at least a dozen shopping bags. No where could they have disappeared?

Very nice looking, you're so talented!
I have a lot of reusable bags, gathered from here and there that are tried and true and very strong. I will probably get more when I visit the International Plowing Match next month.
How have you been managing since you've moved without these bags?

I've been using plastic grocery bags. I keep some in my pockets or purse....but groceries....a gazillion plastic bags. I used to have about 50.... Culled them down to about 15 and they have totally vanished.

@jipsyjo30 it really doesn't take much time. The patience was required in fine tuning a pattern.

@Morleyhunt Wow, 50! I'm impressed. I have a grand total of 10 reusable bags. I've often thought of making my own too, but I probably don't have the time or patience.

These will be really handy. It doesn't matter how careful you are, when you move house there always seems to be something that somehow disappears.

The shopping bags are an annoyance. The antique pitcher and shaving mug are more worrisome.

@JudyEv I think there is one box that hasn't been unpacked. It's not big enough to hold the missing items....and the shopping bags aren't in that box (I peeked)

@Morleyhunt Oh no, that's a shame. Have you unpacked everything?

@Morleyhunt
That is what happens with a move we cannot find something we need and later on we may find it.

@Hannihar I'm going to let it go...and move on. Stressing over it won't bring them back....but will make me miserable.

I am glad some things have turned up but other not that is not good. I was at the beach with a friend yesterday and took off my socks I had on and for the life of me cannot find them. I know that does not compare to what is missing for you.

I tried to find a pattern online.....found one I liked, but then the link didn't work.....sooooo, I took a plastic shopping bag and a large piece of newsprint.....the second bag is my pattern. The first was a very usable test...the handles were too wide and the opening on the small side. The last two are perfect. They were tested out last week when we made our grocery trip.

I have the intention, I have the fabric. I know I used to have the skills. Not sure any more. I even have a bag I made and lined to travel with on the truck with my first husband. I have no idea now how I made it. Good job with making your own. They are so much better than the ones that you can buy.Very attractive too.

One thing I hate about moving is the items that mysteriously disappear and you can't ever figure out what became of them. Making your own probably means they will last longer as well.

I know we culled a lot, but there are some things I know that were packed and have now disappeared.

@Morleyhunt The plastic bags break easily and they pollute.

I prefer the cloth bags as well. They are stronger, are reusable and these are quite attractive.

They don't charge for plastic bags here yet. But I know they have started doing that in many places. I need to buy some -reusable ones this week from work.

These should wash and wear for quite some time. They also fold easily when not in use.

I always use my backpack for putting items in when I shop. (After I pay for them, that is.)

I get groceries for about 10-14 days at a time. The backpack would never hold them.
