I was aware that her health was failing. I was just glad to not be hearing any news. But now she's in the news. By the way, how do you know Aretha Franklin? Did you go to school with her? Live in the same neighborhood? Meet her through work? Just curious.

@amadeo - Beyoncé and Jay-Z are touring and I heard that they took a moment in their concert to honor Aretha Franklin. I knew her health was failing. I did an article on here at a website a few years back. Many songs she sang make up a part of the soundtrack of my life. When I did the article what I found interesting was her influence on young artists of today like Esperanza Spalding.
As for her influence on me, I can remember skipping school lunch so I could use my lunch money to go to the record store on my home from school to buy her records. You remember the 45s? At Mr. Rudy's record store you could buy 5 records for $1. I would keep up with the latest music by listening to the radio and when I heard a new song I would rush to the store because I knew Mr. Rudy was sure to have the record at his shop.
