I called one of my friends yesterday and learned that she had to act as a juror in a fiction contest but that her eyes were so bad that she did not know how she was going to do the job. She works with her eyes most of the time and she is slowly becoming blind

. She has seen several doctors, but apparently her ailment is a sort of degenerative problem and there is no cure. Tomorrow I invited her to my house for the whole day and I´ll read to her and feed her. I already made a nice first dish of chicken thighs in vinegar with onions, carrots and sweet peppers. For seconds, I´ll have pasta with pesto and grated cheese. I hope we can at least read one novel. I told her to bring me a couple more and I´ll do the work for her. I have acted as a juror of literary work so I can help her. I just wish she was not so ill

It is terrible when you know that you cannot do anything for someone you love.

My mother had a generative disease, she was slowly becoming blind. I am glad she was able to see until her last day, I was scared at the idea she would have become totally blind, but there is no cure to macular degeneration.

That´s what my friend has. Only in her case, the eyes are her means of work. And she has 2 children that are more or less good for nothing as help goes. They are both over 40 but still being helped by her.

@LadyDuck Alejandra has had eye problems from her early 60s. She is my age and her eyesight is deteriorating quickly now.

@marguicha My mom started to have this problem in her late 70's. She was treated with a special medication (it is an injection in the eyes) during all the following years of her life. She did not regain her view, but at least she did not become blind.
