My Talk On Heraldry

As mentioned in my diary recently, I gave my talk on general heraldry to the community centre on Friday, and it went well. I probably won’t do this one as a Science Fiction talk, which I considered for future conventions as too few fantasy works touch on the subject. I did mention Game Of Thrones in the talk as well as The Black Field Of Farnworth movie (non-SF).
Fun parts of the talk were mottos, including the mysterious motto of the Martin family (Surname), “He who stares at Martin’s Ape, Martin’s Ape stares at him.”
I finished with examples of bad heraldry and the best laughs came with the current Duke Of Edinburgh’s shield as seen in the enclosed link,
with its oversized helmet crest and really miserable looking near naked Greek God supporter wearing a towel in danger of falling off at any minute.

@LadyDuck yes they are bad examples there - I also like this comic strip inspired by bad heraldry it scrolls too fast though
