Hi, my name is Elizalicious, and I'm a Family Tree Freak.
Have you ever traced your heritage and origins? I pop in and out of genealogy research as the mood takes me. I might spend months without looking and then suddenly I'll be a rampantly insatiable genealogist, getting in too deep for days at a time.
Today I took a gander at the hints which Ancestry keeps emailing me about. And gosh, did I giggle? Yes, I did.
Father - a man I haven't spoken to for eleven years - thinks he's descended from some Lord or Sir or Marquess or whatever. He's completely convinced. This is despite evidence to the contrary, that evidence being that the man he thinks is his direct ancestor died without issue at the tender age of 23. So if I want to enjoy a laugh at the expense of others I can just go and look at his tree on Ancestry, and the trees of others he's convinced.
Of course, this is the man who thinks his own dad is really his grandad. He's actually descended from gypsies, but who am I to burst his bubble.
Today I also managed to fill in some more puzzling pieces. It's only taken me ten years and I'm so excited by it that I could burst with happiness. So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my 4x gt-grandparents for getting all their children baptised on the same day in 1827 {aged from four to sixteen}.
My 3x gt-grandfather was a School Master and it transpires that his daddy was too. In fact, I then found him in the 1841 Census, listed as a National Tutor. A what?! This confused me a bit, but it seems that National Schools were set up to teach poor children and I'm assuming that a National Tutor was just a passing fad of a name for School Master.
Anywhichway, I got very carried away today. I love research. I love shaking my head at research that other folk get wrong. I love that moment when a bit more of the puzzle is completed.
I do get annoyed with foundlings. I do find some surname spellings to be frustrating. I can't stand those people who have eight thousand names on their family tree because they put EVERYBODY on it.
Family Tree research is incredibly satisfying and rewarding. And tomorrow I'm going to see how much deeper I can delve.
I love the internet.

Family Tree researches bring nowhere in Italy. What I know is from mouth to mouth, from my great grandmother who knew from her grandmother and great grandmother. By my mom side, It seems that none of the women in my family worked. The men had farms, they grew pigs and they were producers of "Prosciutto di Parma" and Parmesan from several generations.

@Poppylicious I also liked to ask to my grandparents. It's a shame that I know very little from my father side.

A lot of our tales are word of mouth, and when I can back the tales up with official evidence it makes me happy. I love knowing little bits about all the folk who came before me.

@poppylicious My aunt assumes she is descended from royalty and holds herself in a manner she considers to be regal. I discovered recently that my grandfather looked after Arthur Guinness’s horses in Dublin but the rumour that I am descended from those horses has no scientific basis, although my English son in law does bear a striking resemblance to Princess Anne.

@Poppylicious This is where I stopped wondering about my provenance and started worrying about it.

My grandmother did a good bit of that when she was living. I could research my dad's maternal tree pretty easily..but the paternal side are Smith's! Good Luck with that name!

I was crazy about this when I was younger. I was entrusted by this or that family member to write down the family tree. THEN by chance, I saw a GIANT family tree (just on my mother's side) with too much of roots and branches. I was so shocked that I have stopped since. (I came from some royal background of course .)
