Home Burglaries- Are You Safe?

After reading an article on home safety I was curious to find out and compare if I was taking the necessary precautions to deter burgulars. How about you? What precautions do you take to prevent burglaries in your home? Here are a few helpful hints which make sense: -Keep your home well lit. Burgulars depend on darkness to hide their movements, blend in, and gain entry into your home. I have both solar lights and a motion detector light on my property. And of course, porch lights. -Close drapes and lock all windows when leaving and retiring to bed. Closing your drapes prevents burgulars for scoping out the contents in your home. I thought that one was a very good suggestion. -Keep bushes trimmed below the level of your windows. You don't want to provide protective cover for home invaders. And it allows you to see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. -Make sure your storage shed is locked. A burgular could find tools to use like ladders or hammers in breaking into your house. I did not think about that one, but yes, its possible. So, do you take these precautions? Did you find any of these tips helpful? If you have any other helpful suggestions please add to this list. Thanks. Source- MSN.com/Bob Vila Photo-thinkccig.com/google images

If we go away we take most of these precautions.

@dgobucks226 To be sure and there have been some worrying burglaries near here - houses burgled but also trashed with thousands of dollars of damage done.

@JudyEv I see. Someone breaking into a home is such a scary thought. The loss of valuables, the damage, and the intrusion would definitely bother me greatly!

So far, I have never been robbed where I now live which is about 14 years. I do have insurance for fire and theft. Thanks for the precautionary tips! I will keep them in mind!

Nice to live in a safe neighborhood. Does your community have a neighborhood watch?

I have 5 CCTV in my house. 3 outside and 2 inside. For outside I even use motion detection light. Those so expensive but worth it. My friend told me that I am scary cat and paranoid. But I don't care. My family and mine safety is priority.

Deterring criminal activity is not paranoid but smart. It gives one peace of mind to know you have protection.

I close all the shutters before going to sleep. We have "motion detectors" outsides and in the garden, the lights turn on if there is someone moving there. We also have an alarm, I know that this is a safe country, but why to take risks?

@dgobucks226 We also have solar lights, the garden is never fully dark.

@kepweng No, we do not need an electric fence.

Those motion detectors are very effective. Our neighborhood area is well lit because homes install solar lights around their yard. Thieves prefer dark unlit areas so they can blend better. You are wise to take such precautions.

We have security gates infront of our doors and we have bars on our windows, at sunset we always close our curtains, we also close all the windows before going to bed, our gated community also has an electric fence around it and two massive spotlights and we have an emergency siren @dgobucks226 .

@dgobucks226 outside of our gated community, one of the houses got burgled, they stabbed the man, luckily he survived. It is why most of us are moving into gated communities in my Province.

Those are good tips. I suppose if someone really wanted to, they would be able to with ease. I live on the bottom floor, and my blinds aren't closed. Though I don't know how easy it is to open these windows from the outside. Otherwise, I live in a security locked building.

@dgobucks226 With an alarm in place, I hope no one tries to gain unlawful entry.

@just4him Me too. Noisy neighbors are also a good deterrent.

My home has an alarm system and warning labels on the windows, but yes, a burglar could easily gain entry through a window or my back deck sliding door windows.

Lol, I never lock my doors - don't even have door keys! Why lock the door? That would make it hard for the postman to put the mail on the table if we are out! Motion detector? No idea what that is! Car key is always in the ignition of the car, removing the keys would make it hard if someone wanted to borrow it! I guess I do live on a small island where we know everyone and there has never been a crime of any sorts!

Welcome to Crime Free Nirvana Island, lol. I guess this expression would apply to you: Mi casa es su casa which literally means "my house is your house".

the cocoa tree at the back, near my sister's window, is trimmed low so she can see the house of my brother at the back of our ancestral home where we live

@dgobucks226 that statistic surprises me, but again, because I am in a country town the rates are much less than they are in the city. Some people here don't even bother locking their doors!
