What do you drink?

When I started working for Weight Watchers in 1967 I began to learn a lot about nutrition and how foods/liquids can affect your body and weight while also discovering how little is known about how foods/liquids affect your body.
For many years I drank coffee and then I was told coffee wasn’t good for you so looking into it I decided to drink decaffeinated coffee. Shortly after a report came out that regular coffee was good for you so I decided to alternate between regular and decaf.
Also, since 1967, I started to drink diet cola, lots of it, until I found a supermarket brand that didn’t have any caffeine in it which was back in 1979. For the next 39 years I alternated between regular coffee, decafe coffee, diet colas without caffeine except in restaurants as most served regular diet cola with it and, occasionally, tap water plus, even rarer, bottled water which I drank after hurricane season was over.
Little by little more and more reports were coming out that diet colas could make you gain weight and all I can think of is that I have been drinking diet colas for over 51 years including when I was on WW and lost 100+ pounds. It took awhile and a couple of months ago I decided to give up drinking diet sodas.
For some reason, though I have never been a tea drinker I did know/read/hear all the benefits of different teas, I decided to add various kinds to my daily intake of fluids plus I started buying bottled water and canned sparkling water.
It has been about 2 months that I stopped diet colas and I have lost 9 pounds since but I am not sure if that was the reason or, maybe, the teas like the ones with Probiotics or, maybe, the infection I got (don’t ask) or possibly the new home delivered fresh meals I was eating, though basically I am still eating the same amount of food/calories over a week’s time.
Will I continue to lose weight? Will I continue to drink the teas and not drink diet sodas? Let’s talk next month!

I drink at least 2 liters of Diet Coke every day. I've read those reports about diet sodas and weight gain and also a lot about caffeine being bad for you but I like Diet Coke and am going to stick with it. I don't like coffee and never drink it. Tea is OK but I rarely have it. Water to me is just too dull.

Is that why you put scotch in your water and rum in your diet coke?

@GreatMartin That's what I hear but I see little evidence to support it.

I don't mind drinking water--I usually drink it when I eat out because the prices they charge for coffee, tea, soda, etc., is outrageous!

@GreatMartin I don't care about those prices. They are nothing to me.

I never liked the taste of coffee or the tinny aftertaste of diet soda. I have occasional soda and drink iced tea everyday.

@domiwla As a waiter I lived on it for years--and as a writer there was always coffee on my desk!

Low- and no-calorie sweeteners and the beverages that use them have proven to be an effective tool for weight loss and management. In fact, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2013 confirms that beverages that contain these ingredients can be an important tool in helping reduce calories, and also helped with sweet cravings. Moreover, a two-part study published in the journal Obesity showed that dieters who drank low- and no-calorie beverages lose as much, if not more, weight (and were able to keep more off) than those who were restricted to water only.

1) Who backed those 'studies'?
2) Any of these 'studies' done the past 2 years?
3) Care to give me the URL so I can read these old studies? Yes, in nutrition studies over 2 years are OLD!
4) Those are the same arguments I have given for over 40 years for drinking diet colas and using sugar substitutes.

Oh I do like your name---and your lack of a profile--not to mention no discussions on your page--and how much money do you personally make telling these studies to fat people????

I like Bai fruit drinks, Sparkling Ice or American Ice sparkling water for 0 sugar and seems like soda. Coffee with milk and Stevia is a must. Wyler's powdered no aspartame is good, but hard to find. Apple Juices, orange juice if sugar is low or from fruit. Water daily always 5-8 glasses a day or bottled water when in the go. Once in awhile diet soda, but mostly no sugar ice tea at McDonald's.

@oahuwriter I'm trying to get away from all sugar substitutes but so far not succeeding!
The only time I 'drink' milk is when I use dry milk and make a WW milkshake like a smoothie!

Water is everyday. The rest is occasionally when on sale. Stevia is sugar substitute. I'm going to add milk to my list too.

I've been on the fence about diet soda causing weight gain. I'm curious to see if you continue to lose weight without the diet soda . I don't drink much diet soda but found it didn't affect my weight when I didn't drink any. So I'm definitely curious to see how it works for you.

I stopped drinking carbonated beverages, diet or otherwise fifteen years ago. I drink coffee decaf or decaffeinated three days a week, but I am happy to see most of my favorite tea brands shown above. I love twinnings Earl Grey- and what can beat Celestial Seasonings herbal teas

I now like tea but it doesn't give me the kick coffee does--caffeinated or decaffeinated!

Supposedly water will clean out your system and make you less hungry--I don't believe it--NOTHING makes me less hungry.

I like drinking water, decaffeinated tea from Healthy Options, warm lemon water, and water with two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar.
