Bye Bye A Good Friend!

That electric kettle died suddenly yesterday, after a year of being a faithful friend to us. It refused to work after passing its warranty by a few days, how incredible is that! I am so amazed at its promptness!
Since that heartbreaking event happened at night , this morning we had to make our tea by using the old & traditional kettle.
It was a time of bye bye a new friend, but hello again an old mate!
Have you said goodbye recently to anything in your life? I have been watching our 16 YO washing machine for the last six months or so since it has been behaving weirdly. Guess that would be the next item to buy on our list (after a new electric kettle).

Here, they are quite affordable and are on sale everywhere (at almost the same cost as if you asked someone to repair the blasted thing). The only problem is that you must stay home a day to wait for its delivery, then for a suitable tradesman to come installing or connecting the necessary parts.

@YrNemo Everything is still working, but the motor sometimes makes noise and the frost free sometimes drains to the floor instead of evaporating it. If it goes we will just have to go get one.

@YrNemo Now a days we do not get such good qualities of electronic items in India. With increasing consumerism, nothing goes beyond 10 years without trouble. My mother has a referigerator for more than 45 years and it is still working with no issue. I have changed twice in last 20 years.

@YrNemo I think when Hulu, Netflix, etc. plays a show, they have a contract to only play it for a certain length of time, and the contract for Garfield was up yesterday. But yeah, a trial is just to try it out, you do have to pay monthly if you wanna stick with them lol. I use my brother's Hulu that he pays for, and he uses my WWE Network that I pay for lol.

my rice cooker from Kuwait was brought home by me in 1990 and it is what we are still using. my older brother bought us a new rice cooker and in a year, the rice gets burned, so we kept it and brought out my 'vintage' rice cooker, and that is what we are using now.

We did that to the washing machine that stopped working all of a sudden after giving well over 25 years of smoth service. There were no spare parts to get it back and so had to go for a new one.

It is a mystery to me how gadgets say bye right after the warranty period.
I think they test it out and set a period prior to it.
I have never got used to an electric kettle.. those things came late in my life.Though they are very handy ,I still use the old fashioned one

I would rather return to the old kettle seriously. At least you could look at the shinny surface, see your own reflection there (if not, it means the kettle is a bit dirty - mine acts that way ). Unfortunately, my children who come visit me often, complained bitterly.
