At around 3 PM on Thursday, while i was in office, i received call from my wife that my Mom had unbearable chest pain and needed medical attention urgently. i rushed to my home to take her to nearest doctor available.
In few hours we were in nearby clinic where doc -seemed not very expert and had limited resource -examined her and recommended ECG.He gave her sorbitrate( an effective medicine to prevent chest pain (angina) caused due to narrowing of blood vessels that carries blood to the heart: courtesy google). The ECG report was normal.Yet the same doctor recommended to take her to hospital for safer side.
I took her to the hospital around 10 miles away from my home.Hospital was expensive and within minutes of her admission i was poorer by 10 thousand Rs.
All tests and ECG were found out normal. Her pain had by then subsided and she was talking gleefully.
Even everything was normal the hospital staff on approval of doc advised me to get her hospitalized.I asked the reason, they told me just to observe her for safer side. They also inquired what bothering me to get her hospitalized as i did have medical insurance for her.I told them just because i did have insurance did not make the reason to let her continue here unless some test report suggested me otherwise.
Not very much satisfied with their response i sought the discharge by filling a form to own the responsibility of discharge.
Next day i visited to my regular physician and seeing the report he also remarked that there seemed no reason of hospitalization.
It has been 4 day since the day and my Mom is doing well. She is fine.
This is not for the first time i had such experience from private hospital ,there are many and that is reason i take every hospital advise with pinch of salt?
What about you how much faith you have in your health care system ?Do you feel safe at their hand and are certain that they are not ripping you off ?

It is a sad truth that doctor's, and facilities that doctor's work in, are greedy and want your money more than they care for the patient, or the patient's financial situation.
I am glad your mother is doing better.

@suripunj It's terrible! People matter, and yet the healthcare professionals have forgotten this.

It's better to consult first a public institution if it's accessible. Some private clinics and hospitals may request unnecessary test and treatment which can add to your financial burden.

Doctors are humans like the rest of us, I hear what they have to say and then decide what's best for myself.
