Age Difference in Marriage

The age difference between a girl and a boy in a wedding is usually a hot topic of discussion, especially when the boy is younger than the girl (like in the case of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. But nobody really bothers when the girl is younger. People always have something to talk about. Should we always listen to people or should we do what makes us happy?

Of course we should always do what makes us happy. Those people didn't raise me nor did they contribute in my growth or what I've become so why should I listen to them when it comes to my personal happiness?

@lovelife1234 Love is what makes them happy because no matter what treasure we have in this world there is no meaning without love.

That's great. God bless them both. 13 years is a lot but there must be a lot of love between them to carry out their relationship with lots of happiness

@lovelife1234 It happens only when people are still thinking traditionally. In my country, some elders are starting to be open-minded.

If people were content and happier than they are they would not care what anyone else does and wouldn't talk so much about them. I really do not care what the guy down the street does or anyone I worked with. I am interested in my family and friends. There are to many great things in our lives to worry about what other people are doing. Time is short, be happy.

That's exactly the point. People are not open-minded and thus when someone else who is open-minded enough tried to do something, people talk bad things about them.

I completely agree, and it is really nice to see when Friends and Family support the decision of Marriage, but there are a lot of times when it is not easy. Knowing each other before marriage is very crucial for a successful marriage

In marriage, numbers don't tell if it is gonna be a successful one or not, but true love and strong relationship centered on Christ will make the big difference...People always criticize but that will test the strength of your relationship...and to be happy is your freedom of choice...I remember the song "You and me against the world."... ...

This is such a positive comment. I love the fact that there are so many people who support love and relationship over age numbers.

Thanks. I actually feel the same. Whatever you do, someone in the crowd will have something to say about it and mostly its negative. There is so much negativity in this world.

What got to me about Priyanka and Nick Jonas's engagement is not the fact about their age though....but that it seemed so unreal, considering only 2 years ago they hadn't even met. And I don't think Priyanka had ever dated someone before...but anyways, kudos to them! Age is just a number really. A lot of guys marry women more than their age. Sachin Tendulkar, the cricketer.....Brian Littrell from the Backstreet Boys.... they all are happy in their marriage....which only goes to show that personal happiness is all that matters The mental maturity and being in the same stage of life are the main factors, rather than age. Other people's opinions in marriage choice doesn't matter once you have made the correct choice yourself!

@lovelife1234 in a democratic country, everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as its not directly harrassing the couple. If people have problems, then it's their headache, not the couple's. Society talks like it always has....as much as it has its negative sides, societal opinion generally does help in shaping culture, but it's entirely upto the couple if they want to ignore them or abide by them, I guess.

This is so right. If it is a couple's decision to get married irrespective of their age, then others must not interfere in between them. But people, always have tones of things most of them being negative, to talk about the couple, especially if the couple is a celebrity. People think that if a person is a celebrity then they have the right to say anything and everything about them.

We should marry who want to. My ex-husband was almost 6 years younger than me and people made jokes sometimes

My first husband was 4 years younger than me and my present one is 6 years younger but he looks a lot older. I also have more energy that he does.

I also agree to the fact that marriage must be based on love and happiness and age is just a number. Thanks for your opinion

There are many cases of May, December love affair. There are even those women in their post reproductive age having a relationship to younger men almost double the gap but I don't think there's so much issue about that. It's their choice. If they're truly loving and happy for each other, then people around should understand the situation. If the relationships work, it's not a problem. There were just people doubtful in the motives but let the involved person decide.

An older lady with a younger man instantly becomes the talk of the town. people talk all kind of things about the lady and even that young boy. Maybe these people who talk bad are not happy inside and they do not wish to see anyone else happy too.

@lovelife1234 I am five years older than my husband but he looks older and no one can believe I am older. If this was when I was a teenager there would be some comments but once a person gets older we can never tell the ages any more.

Why should age difference matter? If they love its alright. Honestly, it is difficult to find a suitable match once you are so successful. Look at Ekta Kapoor. There are personal egos which are hard to suppress. Outsider who is not as familiar and in awe with her fame as an Indian might be better equipped to manage the situation, and she too would have fewer expectations of him. I think they will succeed.

Age is not an issue as long as they both have the same love and heart for fun and dreams
