Is it true that people with anxiety or panic attacks can't be helped?

Today somebody told me that I have to deal with anxiety by myself. He can't help me. He can't decide for me. He also told me that I have to overcome this problem alone. But what if I can't? I tried to overcome anxiety by myself, but I need help, I need support. People don't understand. Maybe they think I am crazy.

@dya80dya I am sorry that you deal with anxiety! I am sure you are at least aware that you are not alone in this.
Many people can overcome this solo but doesn't mean you HAVE to. There are many sources out there to help with anxiety. If you are someone who feels you need more support then I would suggest you look for it elsewhere and not whoever told you that you have to deal with it by yourself.
I have no doubt that people do think people who suffer are crazy but that's usually because they have never faced these issues before. So they make really harsh remarks and ignore the ones who need help. Those, again, are the people I suggest you stay away from in regards to your issues.
I have no idea your severity of your anxiety nor what gives you anxiety or your methods of trying to handle it but I am willing to throw myself out there for you if you ever wish to talk about things. Of course that is your decision but I only say because I am someone who suffers with quite a bit of what is labelled "mental illness" and Anxiety is one of them. It can get so bad to the point I start believing in things that haven't even happened. Or maybe won't ever happen.
Or I have issues breathing. Heart rate goes too fast and hard.
I must say, I admire you coming out telling your issue as well as asking for more support. That is not always easy for people to do so please pat yourself on the back for that!
I am here, as well as many others. Please feel free to message me at any time, I am not trained but I have been getting support from professionals for quite some time now that I at least know some techniques.
Wishing you the very best. Remember, you never have to be alone!

@dya80dya No worries at all. I look forward to your message. Just please remember again, that I am personally not trained in any of this but I am trained enough just by being a human. And I will let you know what I have been taught along with doing some more research for you. If something isn't working out for you, I will be here to keep trying.
I also wont be letting anyone else know anything you tell me as I also understand that people, myself included do not like personal issues being thrown around as gossip. So I hope you will feel comfortable talking to me.

@dya80dya That's good that you have seen them. You are not crazy. Don't pay heed to those people who say that you are crazy. Did those professionals suggest some kind of exercise like breathing exercises etc for anxiety?

@dya80dya I take them for irregular heart beat but they've been shown to help anxious people...I had panic attacks and they've stopped now.

@Mike197602 And did you take other meds? I have irregular heart beats. And many times I feel pain in my heart or chest pain, even if doctors say that the heart is healthy.

Meet a neurologist and get some medicine. A walk inhaling fresh air can also solve the problem.

People with anxiety are helped every day with the right medical professional. Myself, for example. In 2012 I fell into a panic/anxiety attack that wouldn't leave. I lived that way (in total fear of the outside world) for two weeks until I realized it wasn't going away on its own.
I went to my doctor, he gave me a form with a number of questions for me to answer, and from my answers he diagnosed General Anxiety Disorder. He put me on a medication, (Citalopram) which took another 4 to 6 weeks to begin working. Once it kicked in and started to work, I haven't had a problem with anxiety.
Your friend is full of BS.

@dya80dya Yes. I take 20mgs per day. (1 tablet)
I am fortunate to not have to take more than that. I guess everyone is different.

I have anxiety/panic attacks every now and then. Just two days ago, I woke up in the middle of the night (around 4 AM) feeling cold and sweaty, and my heart was racing. I was feeling scared/nervous without knowing the reason why. There are times when I am in the middle of something like (working online), then I would suddenly feel scared/nervous. I guess I need help but I don't want to take any medications for it because I am already taking a lot of maintenance medicines.
