Sitting here watching the news, and the announcer said they are thinking about bring it back. I can't remember, when that was allowed on public schools. My children use to experience it, but that was years ago. Any parent that refuses have the alternative of having their child suspended for a week. Did you go to school where it was used?

Oh yes, teachers could paddle a child if they misbehaved. It might be a good thing now, with all the bullying that goes on in school, if kids got a good paddling everytime they did it, that would be a good thing. Kids are allowed to get away with anything today. Parents don't seem to know the meaning of obedience.

Things have really changed since those days. But if I were a teacher now, I wouldn't want to paddle one. You might get hurt.

@popciclecold You might, students have no respect for teachers and neither do parents.

I get your point, Ruby. But I hope there would be restrictions regarding this kind of punishment. Some teachers tend to go overboard when they paddle or hit and shame the student in front of everyone. There have been cases here in the Philippines where students actually get bruises because of this kind of punishment.

It has never been used in France, although my fingers got acquainted with the ruler of an old teacher. The punishment was to stand on a corner of the classroom with a dunce cap.
And I remember that corporal punishment was still in use in UK in the early 1970's, I do not know when it ended.

@popciclecold The same teacher was also throwing pieces of chalk. A brute.

i think the parent should have to come to school and do it or face consequences of some sort. they had it when i was growing up where the principle or a teacher would do it in front of the class and that was embarrassing enough to stop a lot. but my kids also had that in place at school and the only one got a paddling was my oldest. once and he had bruises which made us decide to go to the school and get that teacher fired because no one should be allowed to hit your child and bruise them. thats too hard. but i do think some punishment is needed

Wow, you bring up a good point. If the parents did it they would know how far to go.

During my times, the corporal punishment was there but it was scrapped off though I know it happens
