Today is the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. A total of 2,996 people were killed here in the U.S. by terrorists that day.
I remember that my wife and I were at the eye doctor's when when we first heard the news of the attacks that morning at about 10am. At first I thought an airplane had hit one of the twin towers by accident. But it soon became apparent that this was no accident, but a deliberate act by men who somehow thought that killing thousands of innocent people would in some way help their cause.
Of course it had just the opposite effect. Those who died are now remembered as heroes, and our nation has been inspired by them to be even stronger.
Terrorists can't win for losing.

Sad as it was, the glad thing is that it did not, and could not overwhelm us.

Yes, this is a day that will always be remembered. It happened exactly on a Tuesday and started in my hometown NYC. I was already living in Latvia then but it hit me just as hard. I am posting my story later on.

In those days we couldn't imagine anyone deliberately perpetrating such evil.
