Whenever I see a person walking in the streets begging something for their survival really broke my heart especially if the person is old age or have disability.
Things are very difficult when you get old or invalid under the state of poverty and no one would look after you.
I tried to picture out why they are there enduring the difficulty of survival when it is possible for them to be sheltered and taken care of by their family and relatives or with government facility and other non-governmental institutions.
I am not in the position to judge them because there may be many reasons why they’re doing it that way. Whatever the reasons, there should be help for these people to at least minimize their agony. It is more saddening when you want to help but you can’t help them financially because you do not have also the enough resources.
That’s why, I’m still thankful that despite the many things that I do not have yet in life, I’m still able to make ends meet. It reminds me that no need to get frustrated and regretful for what I have not yet.
It is really good to prepare and plan ahead for the future.

I remember and old guy who always lingers in the vicinity of the church and the church office. Whenever I'd go to the office, I would see him on the steps of the stairs and he stretches out his hand for some coins and I usually give him some. Apparently, he uses the amount he collects to buy bread and feeds the birds with bread crumbs. I was told by some people that the old man actually had a family and his children had stable jobs but he preferred to roam around asking for some coins and sleep in the garage of a house some distance away from the church. He passed away a few years ago.

@ZedSmart I did not know if the old man had issues with his family but I think they had none. In fact, I was told that his children wanted him to stay home but perhaps he was happy roaming and feeding the birds. Whenever I alight from the car to attend mass or go to the church office, he'd stretch out his hand and call me "Chief" with a smile :)

@sunrisefan He may just do it purposely. The amount though is intended for feeding the birds and not for himself.

There might be gap between the man and his family. RIP the man. I also give if the person is no longer capable to be productive. There are just who, in your estimate would still have the capacity but choose to beg. I don't know if they're used by some syndicate but there are quite a number I noticed.

There are all kinds of beggars here, but the old ones really make me sad. I always give something to them, money, food or clothes. There are some beggars that are perfectly fit for all kind of jobs, but they are just lazy. Still, many of them have real problems and no home to go to.
Old age comes with many problems, but having no home and no family it's just too much.

The problem is it's not available in the locality. That's a good idea if there's a place like that offering meals for them. I just remember that there are feeding centers before but only for the undernourished children although it's not in regular basis.

@ZedSmart you are right on that but more often than not most of these people are capable of n willing to work.
It is our responsibility to be socially accepting of them to be able to see a change
Have a look at this video courtesy "what would you do"

@sonorous I get your point. I can see there are many out there still able to make a living for their selves. OK they're no longer in the establishments but they make use of their skills because when one reaches sixty five, he should have the mandatory retirement if he is holding a job position. The good thing for these people because they're availing pension from their social security and aside from that, if they're in the well off family, there would be no problem at all when it comes to financial survival.
For those who are still struggling to earn, they may resort to this thing because they're no longer accepted for a job or they're no longer capable of holding one. They may not also have the capacity to make a capital to sell something. They may have skills or knowledge but cant' be use for reasons. In most cases, they do not have direct family who would assist them nor pension and financial assistance. Where had they been gone from their younger years? That I don't know. Who's to blame? I can't give definite answer. It just sad to accept that there are some people live in misery most especially at times the more it is difficult to stand for themselves.
It is really very important to have knowledge and skills because you can use them.
With the video, they should not be bullied. I respect older people. I have an old neighbor here and he's running a small store. And if business establishment could no longer offer them a job because they have lesser productivity, there must be an institution for the elderly especially to those who do not have family and relatives and not just leave them begging for their survival. I know in many countries, there are institution for them.
