goodbye

We celebrated my MiLs life yesterday, a small funeral attended by her immediate and extended family, and a handful of friends. The flowers were yellow, her favourite colour. I saved a rose from the coffin for my niece, her granddaughter.
My SiL and I both did readings, and I spent much of the time leading up to mine practising the word solemnity. It's a word my tongue and brain stumble over.
The funeral was followed by a get-together in one of the city's colleges. Sandwiches and cake, hot drinks or cold. Alcohol if required. Long-dead people glared down from their frames and the rug tried to cause physical damage on at least eight occasions.
And then we came home.

@Poppylicious This is a fact, after, the world is not at all different. You feel that there is something wrong, but everything goes on as usual.

It still doesn't feel like the end. It doesn't seem that the world is any different. I need to write a post about it, just to sort out everything going on in my head.

She would have been hard pushed to find something to grumble about. And she did like to grumble!

@poppylicious It’s always hard to know what to do next once you all go home don’t you think? We’re about to accumulate to give thanks for my mother’s life in a few hours time.

Goodbyes are very hard especailly if you were close to the person that passed away or to you furry one that left you.
