I love my ukulele. I love my guitar too, because it sounds better, but I do love my Baritone ukulele, it is such fun to play. However.........ukulele's don't always sound so good on their own, so each week I toddle off to the local Uke group. And here is my whinge.
I get so sick of playing the same chords. F and C, F and C, F and C - if you say it fast enough, that's what I really think of it.
You see, the leader of Ukes is a Primary School teacher and treats us the same as the little kids, thinking that anything more than F and C is too hard. Not only that, he transposes any half decent songs so that every song is played F and C with either an Am or a G chord thrown in. Frustrating to say the least.
Then, don't get me started with the strumming pattern. 1 2&3&4& 'Tink tinky tinky tinky; tink tinky tinky tinky; tink tinky tinky tinky. Always. Every song. Every song!!. If you can imagine the song 'Imagine' (John Lennon) in that rhythm then you'll see what I am up against. AAAHHHH. So annoying.
No matter what we say, he will not change. 'We don't want to frighten any beginners off, do we?' he will say. (We've had no new starters for 12 months no surprise.)
I stopped going for a few months, but the other uke players are so nice, I don't want to let them down.
At home, I love to fingerpick. He doesn't allow that at Uke Group, says that no-one likes playing like that really!
The problem is that no-one wants to upset him, he is known for his nervous disposition and getting upset when people challenge him.
Do you belong to a club or group where you get a bit frustrated?
Ahh well, I have vented here on MyLot. Thank you for listening! I feel better already.
PS, the picture is of a guitar, not a ukulele.

My daughter got one guitar for her 14th birthday and she plays it well learning from online videos. Now she is demanding an ukulele for her 15th birthday which still has time and we both are saving for it.

My husband is away at the moment but we have grand plans of buying a ukulele each when he gets home. Whether it will actually happen or not is anybody's guess. Can you start a little group of your own and do your own thing there?
