A pleasant surprise in my shade-house

I’ve been writing about Western Australia’s attractive but wild orchids. These are not the same genus as the more commonly seen hothouse orchid. However, yesterday I poked my nose in my shadehouse (greenhouse) and low and behold my ‘domestic’ orchid had three flowers on it.
I was surprised but very pleased. I’ve never pretended to be a good gardener and I always thought orchids were hard to grow but this plant has bloomed before and caught me totally by surprise. The shade-house is reticulated so I don’t even have to go in there to water the plants.

Orchids are very beautiful flowers. I wish I had the time and space to grow lots of flowers, but my house is in a heavily wooded forest area, and doesn't get much sunlight at all due to the abundant amount of trees. So I just have to admire your flowers instead!

@JudyEv I'll take the shade of the trees over the flowers any day here in Florida. With our blazing sun and soaring high temperatures, having a fully shaded canopy of trees around my house helps keep my utility bills lower in the summer.

@moffittjc I'm sure it does. If we go down in the paddock to our grove of planted trees, it is always quite a bit cooler there.

That sounds really nice. our summer was so wet and miserable this year..nothing grew..but I am not that great of a gardener, but if the weather is decent..I usually get something.

My mother and sister were/are great gardeners. I sometimes feel like I'm letting the side down.

It is proved beyond doubt that one does not need to have green fingers to have rare flowers blooming in their gardens.
That is a real beauty

That did make you be pleasantly surprised.I have some potted orchids transplanted from the wild. They bloom in early spring when the faint sweet smell of them lies on the air.

That is a very pretty flower. I have mixed results with growing plants. Hubby, on the other hand, sees to have a real green thumb.

Some people really have the knack don't they? My Mum could grow just about anything.

Someone gave me this. My heart sinks when people give me plants as mostly they soon die.
