Coconut Ice Cream: It’s Delightful

When we went to the weekend market in Bangkok. We saw an ice cream stall that sells coconut ice cream. Now I’m from the tropics and we have plenty of coconuts but I haven’t really tried this. I love coconuts, but I was skeptical with the ice cream. But since I don’t want to be ignorant I ordered one to be shared with my partner. It was so delicious that I regretted sharing it It has sticky rice, crispies, and some peanuts on top. Like all the things I like in a coconut shell. Have you tried coconut ice cream? What do you think of it?

I had coconut ice cream just last night! Actually, it was frozen yogurt. But it was delicious!

I used to think coconut is best eaten as a normal fruit from its shell. I had a lot of dessicated coconut on things and I can’t really taste the coconut. I was thinking the ice cream would not be too good. I was surprised and glad to be proven wrong.

@moffittjc Oh wow it feels like you grew up in Asia. With the coconut climbing and coconut trees. You seem to have such a happy childhood and less sibling rivalry as both of you like different things. I’m surprised you don’t like mangoes.

@flapiz I love eating coconut from the shell. My grandmother used to have several coconut trees in her yard, and when I was a kid I would climb the coconut trees to cut down the fruit to break it open and eat it. My brother never liked coconut, so I always had it all to myself. He loved eating mangoes, which I never liked.

@rakski yes that’s the right word. Also the “giving tree”. Useful from leaves to roots.

Yes, I tried it on our first trip to Thailand. Delicious. Now, I have some each time we go. My first try, they served it with peanuts and corn kernels, which I found unusual, but very nice.

we have buko ice cream and buko ice drop with beans on top, but of course, it's not the same. the combination of ice cream and sticky rice (malagkit?) is really new to me.

Hmm I didn’t know we have buko ice cream in the Philippines. Maybe because I usually stick to my favourite ube or pistachio here. Malagkit and coconut milk is heavenly.

We have halo-halo here and it looks like similar. Sometimes, we incorporate ice cream to buco salad(shredded young coconut in cream and condensed milk). Actually, we have this buco variety of ice cream sold in the market.

It’s tastier than halo halo but the ingredients are in fact more or less similar. I love halo halo by the way.
