Living the Dream?

I'm in the fortunate position of being my own boss and working from home as a typist so I can work hours that suit me. I started work at 7.30 this morning and am now settling down with a cup of tea to relax for a while at 3.30. However, my job's not quite my perfect job.
I've always had a dream to be a writer of children's stories but, so far, I haven't had much luck with that. Unfortunately, because I need money to pay the bills I can't put the time into my passion but I can remember by dad telling me that if he won the lottery he'd buy me a lovely little English country cottage with an English cottage garden and an orchard. There'd be land to use for rescued farm animals and there'd be a stream running through the land. I could then spend all my time writing in my dream location.
Unfortunately my dad passed away some years ago and my mum is in a care home with dementia - she doesn't even know who I am and, as I don't enter any lotteries I think that dream ship has sailed but I never give up hoping and I do count my blessings.
I could be stuck in the city again working in an office environment but I'm lucky to live in a village overlooking a water meadow on which cattle from the local animal sanctuary graze during the summer months and beyond that is an ancient woodland area which has a carpet of bluebells in the spring. This afternoon I saw four sparrowhawks swooping above my garden as I took in the washing but I still strive for that dream cottage.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a dream home or dream job that they haven't quite managed to achieve yet or maybe you're already living your dream?

We are pretty much living our dream We have 18 acres with native bush on two sides and can see our neighbours only if we get in the right spot. We don't do anything with the land but it provides feed for the kangaroos which go in and out as they please.

I am in the country and happy about that. I just wish I lived someplace that stayed warmer.

@olliesmum I think it has been hot every where this year. The humidity was very high here all summer too.

I'm relatively happy with our climate. I live in the East of England so we tend to get cold winds blowing across from the North Sea but I just love the different seasons. Having said that this summer was mega hot which made life a little sticky at times!

I keep getting started and then 'life' seems to kick in and it has to be put on hold but I'm determined to keep at it.

I'm a bit like you, I work from home as an editor. It would be nice to do it while travelling the world but I need to be here to take the children to school! The one thing I haven't achieved though, that I did dream of, was being able to sit in the garden to work (I love my garden!) Sadly if I take the laptop outside, I can't see a thiing on the screen unless I put my head in a box.

I know what you mean about the laptop. It'd be lovely to sit outside on a hot day.

My life is totally different from my dreams. But I want to make the best of it. My dreams are not in my control but my life is.

@olliesmum That is the basic right. Those are moments of joy that we have to steal.
