Last night, my church held a pastor appreciation night. We had all kinds of pies for dessert and one chocolate cake. I ate a tiny slice of that and loved it, even though it was too sweet. I can still taste it. What is your favorite dessert? Which would you pick?

Yes, it is, but probably is even sweeter with more calories than the decadent cake.

@CarolDM I don't see it very often. It is too rich for a lot of people.

I would probably pick the cake unless they had a lemon meringue pie. That gets first dibs with me every time. Our pastor appreciation is Sunday with a potluck to follow the service. I haven't decided what to bring yet. I might not, we'll see.

We just had a service and people brought desserts. What do you like to cook for potlucks?

@just4him Everyone just brings what they want at my church. Sometimes we end up with too much dessert and not enough dinner. There have been times when the men went on a run to a fast food chicken place or too a supermarket with a deli section.

@akalinus They usually stick my end of the alphabet with salads. Now, I know what I'm making. I make a summer squash, zucchini, mushroom, onion medley in olive oil and water. It's great. Tomatoes too. Though I think I'm out of mushrooms. I'll need to look. This time they aren't doing the alphabet thing.

I love chocolate but am not keen on other chocolate-flavoured foods. It depends on what they are but chocolate cake is usually too rich for me.

That chocolate cake was awfully sweet. I was glad I only took a tiny slice. Too much sugar sweetness is sickening sometimes.

@JudyEv He realizes that he can't eat it. Good for him. I wish I could cut out the sugar. I am trying.

@akalinus My husband finds that now too. He has Type 2 diabetes and has cut out almost all sugar. Anything sweet he now finds makes him feel ill.

I am not supposed to eat them either but slip up once in a while. I ate the thinnest slice I could get. It was so good.

I tend to like cake more than pie on a standard basis, but if I saw interesting pie flavors, I might have gone with pie.

@akalinus I would probably look for something unusual I haven't had before...foregoing that,,probably pumpkin, pecan or coconut cream.

I think that I would prefer a pie, something with a good crust, as that is what I really enjoy about a pie. I'm not much of a cake eater.

@akalinus I have to watch what I eat also. I do have a weakness for brownies, and they have a cakey way to them. But I don't make them myself, I only splurge occasionally and buy them from a bakery.

Joes banana pudding is to die for. Or should I say diet? It is so good but very rich because he makes his own custard with more yolks than the recipe calls for.
