Are you a fan of ghostwriting?

There are many celebrities who publish books, which always seem to become NY Times Bestsellers. But are they actually writing these books? Or are they hiring ghostwriters - paying someone to write the books for them and just attaching their own name to the work, as if they wrote it. And how do we know? I am not a fan of ghostwriting. Would never be one or hire one... If I were to write something for another person I'd want my name attached to the work because I'd have spent a great deal of time writing whatever it is. And I am not okay with someone taking credit for the work that I'd end up writing. Even if I were paid big bucks for it. I also would never have someone write something for me and then say that I wrote it. Being a writer and published author, to me that is just wrong. And it's kinda like plagiarism because I'd be passing off someone's work as my own and taking credit for something I didn't write, even though they are allowing me to do that because they are paid for it. But there are plenty of people who hire ghostwriters to pen books for them. And there are plenty of people who ghostwrite for others... What are your thoughts on ghostwriting?

I work as a ghostwriter. I write mostly how-to articles for people who earn from blogging or do affiliate marketing. =)

Interesting. What topics do you write about? Writing how-to-articles is different than writing fiction or non-fiction books.

@almostoveryou I published my books under my own name but the first name I shortened. I got married and my last name changed but I kept my author name the same as it always was.

@lovebuglena Mostly home and family articles. I have not tried ghostwriting for fiction. Although I have published my short stories under my own name.

I'm not a fan of that activity. I respect the taste of others.

I also don't really get why someone would do this. If my name was going to be on a book, I would make sure I actually wrote it.

Some people have a story or idea they want to share with the world but don't really know how to bring it to life so they hire someone to do it for them. But if that were the case I'd make sure the person that did write it would also be credited. Like a co-author thing.

I've never tried this kind of writing. It's not something I am interested in.

Me neither. But apparently there is a lot of that happening nowadays.

@Meramar Now that doesn't make sense to me... Unless the celebrity gives the ghostwriter every detail of their life that they want in the book, how can they write it?

@lovebuglena Yes, I heard that some people use ghostwriters to write their own biography.
