Rare evening

Some My Lotters often have big gatherings with friends and family. I rarely do. Last night a friend and her 12 year old daughter visited my hubby and I. We had a potluck supper. She brought gluten free noodles and bread and a little jar of melted butter and garlic. I made up a sauce of onions, mushrooms, tomato sauce and tofu. I also threw together some (avocado-date sweetened) chocolate pudding for dessert. The daughter was not delighted by the tofu. She opted for plain sauce from the jar. I think she also washed most of her pudding down the sink drain. (To me it tasted like well, chocolate pudding though I put in a smidge of mint extract.) We all played Three rounds of Mad Libs if anyone knows about that game any more. That sure can be funny when words don't match in a sentence. Totally fun evening.

I'm with the daughter. I don't tolerate tofu well so I avoid it and the idea of sweetening chocolate with avocado and dates sounds really unappealing, gimme avocado with salsa and chips, as for the chocolate pudding, well, if it's dark chocolate that would be knda tasty but if it has to be sweetened then I'd prefer sugar. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan either so maybe that's part of it.

@rebelann I'm pretty sure that if I gave you some of that pudding and didn't let you in on the secret you would ask for more. The avocado is just a good source of fat and vitamin E. The dates add a taste of brown sugar. My Mom sure got fooled by it.

I'm not too crazy about sweets to begin with and I don't like dates so I would probably ask for avocado and salsa instead @sallypup

My kids loved mad libs when they were little. We would buy the books for about $1.50 at Ollie's which is a liquidation type store. The food sounds delicious all of it! I'm not surprised the 12 year old didn't like much as both my kids are so picky.

@sallypup If she is gluten intolerant she would get diaherrea anytime she eats anything with gluten in it I believe. I was lactose intolerant and had IBS so every time I ate anything I had diaherrea so I can relate to how someone with an intolerance to gluten would feel.

@shaggin I feel a tad sorry for the little girl. Her Mom is so bent on not eating gluten. She says it makes her sick. The little girl must have that to deal with every day.

That is good that you had a fun night. We all need that once in awhile. Hopefully she at least sampled some of everything.

I'm glad you had a fun evening! Kids that age sometimes are so fussy about things, I rarely pay attention if a child doesn't eat what's served. I no longer sweat the small stuff in life.

@LovingMyBabies. Its hard for that girl, too, cause she spends some weeks with her Dad and his new family. She copes with so many different lifestyles.

I cook with tofu sometimes and it picks up the flavor of what I use with it. My ex always thought it was chicken and would tell others how he didn't like the foo foo stuff and raved about my chicken soup. I'd keep quiet about it.

@noni1959 You understand the nature of tofu. I love your faux chicken story.

@sallypup I would sneak in healthy stuff where he wouldn't know like grated zucchini in meat loaf and I would make onion rings dredged in milk then smashed up Fiber One before baking. They taste so good but if I told him, he would have said they didn't. I even made a saurkraut chocolate cake.
