I may be wrong, but I think Something New was the name of a Beatles' album in the 1960s. I was a child then, and the name sticks in my head.
Anyway, today, my music buddy Michael and I went cycling from Antioch toward the Black Diamond Mines, where I take my "troubled" kids hiking.
We wound up in a ghost town I hadn't heard of, right over the hill from my familiar turf. We must have cycled 5 miles or so, each way.
In this region (of California), coal was mined in the late 1800s. But the grade of coal was not good enough, so they started mining silica, for glass bottles, which were made in Oakland CA. This was long before Oakland became a "dangerous" town.
I'll attach a picture of me leaning against a "blue live oak tree." They yield really large acorns and apparently only exist near the Delta in the Bay Area of California.

One of my favorite memories as a kid is the big oak tree in our back yard and all the wonderful acorns under it.
