If you have a nice phone... spend the $8 and buy screen protectors

Hi My Lot,
Here is a post based on my own recent experience. Ah yes, experience is a great instructor and I am still learning.
About 6 months ago - I upgraded from a non-smart phone to a smart phone. I held out a long time.
And I made my choice. Instead of doing what I would do in the past - buy the cheapest smart phone available - I got one a little nicer figuring it wouldn't run out of space right away. And I was right, the nicer one works better. It was only about $130. In the world of smartphones that's not much, but is still much more than I typically would have spent.
I bought a (pretty but not very prtective) case for the back and figured the front would be fine. I saw the screen protectors for an extra $8 and thought ... nah! Save a little $, I'm a careful person etc....
Why don't they make screens out of plastic?
Anyway as you can guess - freak accident and I broke my screen. It was still useable.
Yesterday my very good friend and I were going to fix it. I bought a replacement glass. After spending about 2 hours getting it apart - we discovered that in opening the case we destroyed the LCD part.
Well I was prepared for it to happen. It still wasn't fun though. I was upset about the waste of time and effort and of course this means I need to buy a new phone.
Thankfully I had kept my old phone, something I would suggest everyone do - so all I had to do was put my sim card in, and at least I have phone until the new one gets here.
So that's my advice everyone - spend the little extra $, get a screen protector for the front of your phone and , if possible keep an old phone on hand in case of emergency - so you'll still have a phone.
I don't recommend doing this to your phone:
Hello technology lovers here are we beat and rub some tools on the display of "Motorola Moto E4" for scratch test because it has protection of gorilla glass,...

What kind did you buy for that price? I am about to take the leap and get a smart phone.

I don't have a protector and I live in fear of that happening. But Batteries Plus Bulbs does repairs and I hear it isn't too expensive, so I have that going for me.

@xander6464 a $10 protector for the screen would probably be cheaper then a repair shop would charge to fix it if they could.

@shaggin It probably is but it's probably still cheaper than a new phone, if you skipped the protector.

Oh oh. I would consider covering your glAss lol. Hm, screen replacement not too bad? Maybe batteries plus bulbs is just a lot cheaper than the places I checked....

You are smart to buy the screen protector and case right away. I've heard otterbox is a good case, though...the glitter girl in me likes sparkles! I hope you get a nice phone that you like

That is cheap for a smartphone, so at least you're lucky there with it brekaing. But i know it still sucks.
Thankfully ive had my very expensive phone for almost 3 years and havent broke the screen yet. Buy do need a new one as it charges too slow now.

@Courtlynn I've heard a lot of people say their phones quit after two years so yours lasting three years is awesome!

@shaggin I've never had phones quit, after two years. They just usually break by then, by falling onto the ground, and once a niece threw one on the ground. Lol

Ah yeah - I was actually impressed that this phone is as nice as it is for the price. The only thing it doesn't have that I sort of wanted was that cool wrap around screen. Oh well.
Ah you are lucky. I hope that you get a nice phone when it is time for it

Screen protectors are nice, I highly recommend the otterbox cases. The best protection is to limit the impact of events that will cause damage.
The biggest damage event? dropping it!

I did what you suggest when I bought my smart phone and it has fallen a few times but it is well protected. Once in a while I do something wise.

We recently changed carriers from a local US Cellular to a national plan with Verizon. So, of course we had to trade in our old phones (they were about worn out anyway) and bought glass screen protectors while we were at their store. Well, you know how the info overload can get. They're like used car dealers.
Not long after, both our glass protectors got chipped along the side, so since I had registered them on line, we got replacement ones. What I didn't realize at the time was that those daggone things were $49 EACH! I could have bought one at Walmart for 20 bucks. Oh well, you live and hopefully learn. Sorry to hear about your phone. Hope you can find a good one that's not too terribly expensive.

@1creekgirl yikes $49 for a screen protector. I've bought them at Walmart for around $10 and on Amazon even cheaper.

Oh yes, computer and now , phone sales-people can be very overloading with the info. lol.
Oh my goodness, $49 ez ? Price gouging. Still cheaper than a new phone though.
I ended up re-buying the same one I had, since I know it meets my needs. Thanks!

I like my new phone..and it was not what too expensive either..but it is much better than the other. I think I might just get myself one of those screen protectors! I have the old phone as well, which is not exciting but better than nothing.

So true. When I switched for those couple of days to my old phone I was reminded why I upgraded to being with. But that being said, I was happy to have it - better than none.

That sucks that you broke it, I got mine in Jan. and bought a case for it. Its like a little wallet, has a place for credit cards and my license and the phone fits in on the other side. Then the whole case snaps shut, I am glad I got it coz I have dropped that sucker many times and it has always been protected.

You were wise to get that sort of case. I have seen that style and think I may buy a new case similar to that. So often going to the store I just take my keys, phone, cash/cards... so it would be a handy way to just grab it and go :-)
