Troubled Start of November

Some users asked me why I had not yet written a November post.
I had a troubled start of the month. We had very bad weather and I needed to clear the garden from debris, plus some few stressful little things that are now fixed.
It's already the 6th of the month, but I would like to share some facts about November.
- The name comes from the Latin nine(novem), in the Roman calendar it was the ninth month of the year and it also was the month when winter started.
- The birthstone is the topaz, the flower the chrysanthemum
- The November moon is "Beaver Moon" (Friday 23rd).
The name comes from the fact that hunters set beaver traps in November, before the swamps froze.
According to the ancient folklore, a heavy snow in November will last until April.
The weather forecast (at least for the country where I live) predicts a warmer than average month and a mild winter. Let's cross our fingers.
Have you special facts to share about this month?
The photo is early morning, the sun trying to show up.

I love your photo and am glad to see your post. So sorry about your problems and bad weather. We had some of that, too. I’m really happy to know there will be a full moon on November 23. I’m having family over for dinner and have always loved a full moon. Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, will be celebrated here on November 22nd.

@LadyDuck Wherever in the world we travel, I know that full moon will be shining on everyone at home. I love them any time of year. We won't have our usual Friday night date night, but being with our family and the kids trumps that any time.

I like the picture, it is beautiful.
On November 10 the Danes celebrate "Mortensaften" (night of Morten) People used to eat goose on that day. Now we eat duck instead.

@LadyDuck My husband and I don't always follow the tradition, but duck is the traditional food that day. I am not sure why it was changed from goose to duck. According to the legend about Morten it is a goose and not a duck.

@Porcospino May be because a goose is too big and now families are small.

That is a very pretty sky!
I've not been around much to know whether anyone has or hasn't posted. I know there's one member who hasn't been on in several months and I hope it's because she has a better job now.
I don't have any facts to share about this month except that it's started off rainy here!

@LadyDuck I am sort of looking forward to the cold, as long as it doesn't get too bad.

@ScribbledAdNauseum At least the few cold nights have killed the mosquitoes, I do not regret them.

@LadyDuck I noticed today that its awfully windy here, and we just had rain yesterday, so the leaves on the trees are weighed down with the excess water and the wind is blowing so many of them off of the trees. Wet leaves on the roadways make for slippery conditions.

I do Brooklyn licked her Butt 20 times and Kai has not yet..... ate her leg a few but all is good. What ever it was is gone. I miss being a Marine when I could talk like that. To Far Miss Anna but I am scared election day and just describing what girls are doing or did not to long ago.

I peeked at the Farmers almanac on the magazine stand Sunday when we had no customers. It said that for Michigan this winter would either be rainier than normal or dryer than normal depending on where someone lives. I'm close to the line shown so I don't know which way my area might go. It did say not as much snow and milder for cold, I think, if I read it right
Funny thing is that snow is in the forecast for Friday and we could get more thru the following weekend.
Now that I'm off work and my foot is better, not the wound, just the ability to stand and walk normal on my foot, I should prepare my garage for easy access to snow removal items and finish getting the leaves to the road.

@MarshaMusselman Even if the lake overflows we are uphills and I do not fear flooding, I am not concerned by this, but I have enough of rain.

@LadyDuck we've gotten a lot of rain recently too intermixed with cloudy skies. The leaves are mostly down now just like elsewhere. Yesterday was 51 even though it felt colder since the winds were brisk. Today the winds are stronger or were supposed to be. I can't hear them so maybe it's not as bad as expected.
The temp willing go down as the week progresses. Our rivers aren't close to overflowing yet so I shouldn't have to watch my basement for water.

I have several family members who have birthdays in November so that keeps it busy but I don't really like November- The warmer part of Fall has passed and it is always dark and a cold month.

Our rain came just a few days ago, after a remarkably dry summer and early autumn. I have two volunteers coming today for a week, to help in the garden. I do hope the rain stays away enough to allow them to work out there!

@LadyDuck Yes, I am also glad I live near the top of a hill - and well above sea level!

Beautiful picture. Is it still raining there? I heard a little about the weather you were getting and it didn't look nice at all. November is the birth month of my oldest son, my Mom and one of my brothers. My Mom and brother are both gone from us but I still call out Happy Birthday to them.
