Away again for a few days

Later today we are going to Northcliffe, a town about three hours south of us in Western Australia. Our friend’s elderly mother has passed away and her funeral is on Friday. Our friend has driven from Perth and stayed with us last night and today we’ll take her down to Northcliffe. We will stay two nights then bring her back with us on Saturday. She’ll return to Perth on Sunday and life will no doubt go on much the same as before but without the regular visits to see her beloved mother. The world doesn’t stop turning whatever happens on a personal level.
The photo shows some of the spoils that Vince brought back from Nepal. The shawl on the right is made from yak’s hair and the others from cashmere. The hat and beanie were gifts, both of which I’ve snaffled and the shoes are also for me. The grandmother of the child for whom we are paying school fees has a small shoe shop and these were a gift. They chose the biggest pair in the shop although by Western standards my feet are ‘average’. As luck would have it they fit perfectly and are the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn for a long time. I really love them. So I’ll be back in a few days.

It is kind of you to help this friend through this time of sorrow for her. Those hats are you! Glad the shoes fit well.

You are a nice soul. Thanks for the word snaffled. I feel my vocabulary has improved at myLot. English is still limping and that is overestimation. LOL. Why is that so? I need to read more I suppose. I like the way you all are able to express yourself without using long sentences. I feel my language is stiff. No I am not fishing for compliments. If I were to give the comment to native English speakers to rewrite, they would give me the same thing in three or four sentences. That is where I want to reach.

Condolences to your friend on the passing of her mother, Ms. Judy. How nice of the grandmother of the child you sponsored in school to send you a gift. I hope I remember this line from the Pope or Mother Teresa which goes "No one is too poor as not to have anything to give and no one is too rich as not to be able to receive." Safe travel, Ms. Judy!

@JudyEv Probably Vince feels guilty just as everyone does sometimes when receiving something from the "poor" (they are actually rich in spirit) as we feel that would be very much for them. They remind me of the poor widow in the Bible who dropped two coins in the collection box.

@JudyEv I have a couple of ponchos that I love in the winter. They fit nicely over a coat.

Sorry to hear of your friend's Mother's passing. Mine passed last year. It's not easy going onward with life now, but I must be strong. Take care and see you when you get back. Take care.

That stuff could be memorabilia specially since there are no plans to get back to Nepal.

No, the world doesn't stop turning whatever happens on a personal level, and that's not a bad thing. I'm very sorry to hear that about your friend's mother. Losing a mother at any age is just awful.
I love the cashmere scarf. It's so rich and elegant looking. If the shoe fits, wear it! Lol. Glad they fit and you like them. See you when you return.
