Does depression make you angry, irritated, paranoic?

A friend recently displaying her extreme emotions and snapping at everyone without any apparent reason. She is soft spoken, sweet and gentle otherwise. We, as friends, are concerned because we haven't seen this side of hers. She has been developing OCD and any thing that's going against her is making her angry. Shouting - crying - becoming sad - distancing. This is the order every time. Any suggestions?

If things get worse we have to do that. At present she is in denial. We are trying our best to ignore and understand her. Also, I have taken the list of medication that she is on currently. In case of any of those have any hormonal impact. We never know.

That is not permissible in an office. The HR has to do something , to stop the person from being that way, because it could affect the nice working relationship she has at the office. HR will surely advise her to see a psychiatrist, lest it becomes worse.

Okay, not to be rude, but I am surprised at the 2 likes for this. First of all, when mental illness is becoming an issue for someone, the last thing I think they really care about is "oh my god my working relationships are going to fall apart". In U.S.A, unless she had a serious episode at work, her employers cannot force her or even bring up going to the psychiatrist. And only then to help HER, not to help her coworkers from being affected. I'm sorry I wish more people were inclined to just want to help someone, not because "oh gosh we have to fix this before it disrupts something".

I agree. Just by being there we can help each other in more ways than we can think of. She is jittery at us as well. But unlike others I am trying to ignore her paranoia.

When a friend has been stuck in the depression or abyss of life,we have duty to help her to cheer up again, but not get away from her.Push the sad person away is a kinda invisible murder.

It definitely can cause all of those things. and being concerned is the next step, the next step is trying to get her to see a doctor. That can be tricky for a friend to do because if you outright tell her she needs to go to the doctor because of mental illness, it might make her very defensive. Do you know or have any way to contact a family member that might be able to help ? They might be able to shine some light on her history, if this is new or if its something that has come back. But bottom line, she should talk to a doctor.

It’s possible. Depression can cause a lot of symptoms.

Does she also have times where she is unusually happy and energetic? If so, she may have manic depression (bi polar disorder).

I tend to find ways to relax and deal with the cause of such depression afterward.
