Do you find dreams interesting? Do you try to analyze your dreams?

Tonight, I get to lecture about dreams at the College. It's a subject not covered in my text book, but one that students enjoy. I'll reveal things like when we dream the most (late at night), what our brainwaves look like when we dream (kind of like when we're awake and thinking), and at what age do we need the most dream sleep (infancy). I'll also go over Freud's, Jung's and the Cognitive theory of dreams. I think there's truth in all of them. Do you remember your dreams? Do you try to analyze them? My answer to both questions is yes.

hmm, i only seem to remember the couple of seconds before i wake up. i dont analyze them. i figure if i remember them completely then theres no need to and if i dont remember them, then maybe it wasnt important.

Heh. Jung says just HAVING the dreams is therapeutic. Freud say analysis is important. I say...I have no clue.

Many psychologists think dreams are very important. Remember that we spend about 1/3 of our lives asleep!

I usually remember my dreams, some are too weird to be analyzed. I have read a lot of what the Swiss Carl Jung has written. I like him a lot more than Freud, who was obsessed by sexuality.

@TheHorse No, my German is not good enough to read a book, I usually read Freud in French, the translation seems a lot better than the Italian text.

There's a book by Bruno Bettelheim (Freud and Man's Soul) in which he suggests that Freud used sexuality as a metaphor for...perhaps power and pleasure? Did you get to read Freud in German? Bettelheim suggests that something is lost in the translation into English.

I do remember a lot (not all) of my dreams. Some stand out more than others, and those are the ones I tend to try to analyze. I had a dream recently that involved my deceased grandmother that really had me bothered. I kept on until I was satisfied with the meaning. Not that she visited me, mind you, but the significance to my life finally made sense.

That sounds like a good outcome. Did analyzing, and coming to terms with, the dream make you feel better?

@TheHorse Oh it definitely did. It answered a question that had been plaguing me for months. It helped me to come to the conclusion that I did all I could do in a desperate situation.

I see gods idols in my dream. Sometimes sharks...once a lion. I hate it when dreams are of late night, dark hours. But I noticed that happens when I walk in night. I used to walk down from office late in the night as there would be no buses, and waking up auto drivers would be dangerous. I think that thing has made a serious impact on my dreams.

@TheHorse Literally. I have worked really hard hero. I used to reach office around 9.30 am in the morning, and return home at 2 or 4 in the night. Sometimes I worked round the clock. At times, I brought home the work. Those days were different. I was around 30 at the time. Now I can't do that. The working hours decreased over a period, especially after I changed the job. Even so, it used to be 9.30 am and 8 pm or so in the evenings. The 2 or 4 am left me scared. LOL. There would be nobody on the roads, just the stray dogs a few autos, with drivers sleeping, and at a distance somebody from Karvy would be walking back. You could see them clearly, since there would no traffic, walk fast, and yet keep distance not knowing the nature of the person. Idea was to remain at audible distance should any mishap occur. Yeah...worked that much.

@thehorse I love incomprehensible dreams that leave me exhausted and bewildered but I’d never want to understand them. Most times I have all my clothes on in my dreams but there are other times ... you know, when you suddenly realise that you don’t have any clothes on and everyone else is decently clad and it’s a long way home on the bus.

Sometimes I remember them. At present I don't analyze them. Some days I don't remember any dreams and other days I want to stay in the dream. I knew you worked with young kids but I didn't know you taught at the college too.

@MarshaMusselman It depends on the semester. I have to bring the college work home (grading papers, etc.), while the preschool and disadvantaged kid work mostly stays at work. I've never taught more than three college classes per semester here in California.

@TheHorse Sometimes I have wonderful ideas while I'm half-asleep but they're sometimes a bit 'out there' when I wake up properly. Which isn't really the same as dreaming.

I seldom remember my dreams. Mostly I do not try to analyze them. This does explain why if I have stayed up too late I feel deprived even if I sleep enough hours.

If you sleep enough hours, you should have time to experience REM sleep, which occurs mostly late at night.

I forget my dreams the next day. I am aware that dreams are formation of thoughts in our sub conscious mind and they have nothing to do with reality.

@dpk262006 I start with what I've experienced in recent days. "Manifest content" often involves people we've spoken with recently, things we've been doing (work, etc.). But "latent content" is where the interesting stuff lies.

Sometimes I remember them, sometimes I don't, and occassionally I'll try to look up their meaning in my dream book, but usually the prominent feature of one of my dreams is not listed, so I don't anymore. (And I'm not even wearing running shoes...)

Every so often, I get a dream I can interpret pertaining to my life. Mostly though I seem unable to remember them. I would say my remembered dreams usually have a Christian interpretation and contain a meaning meant for me.

Well.... Okay. Hmm. Do you think that spirits/ ghosts can invade your dreams? I have always remembered my dreams, so many were just weird and full of people I did not know, my father was often in those dreams with me. I slept good but woke many times because of the dreams. Then I heard a few people say "You`re a sensitive." After finally listening I have a writing friend, she used to be here a lot more than she is now, Brenda, she is a reiki master and she did her thing and sent me a crystal. I no longer have dreams that are filled with strangers, my father is no longer there either and I am sure he was the protector. Now I dream about my life or books I read before sleep and junk like that, I am so happy to be free of all those dreams and people. Only one has made through and that dream was extremely bad, I need to mention that to Brenda. I am learning to control this crap of a o called gift I do not want, I mostly say No and go away. I know, I know! The comment from the crazy lady in Alabama.

I'm not sure about things like spirits and ghosts. But I do believe in synchronicity--that we "know" things in dreams that may have evaded us in waking life.
