The toilet for the gents is ready; now it is time for the ladies

Our outdoor concert is fast approaching and has been providing fodder for a number of discussions. The gents’ toilet is set up and ready and now I’ve turned my attention to the ladies’ toilet. We have built this ourselves. Firstly we dug a hole to take a septic tank. We would use a crowbar to loosen a couple of inches then add several inches of water over night as the soil was very hard. Over a period of a couple of weeks we reached the necessary depth. We then used the three-point linkage on the tractor to position the tank over the hole and lower it down. The toilet is a garden shed. We’ve installed a flushing toilet and there is also a tiny hand-basin. Above the basin is a paper towel dispenser. After experimenting with solar lights, we now hook up the light to a battery which sits outside the toilet. So far, touch wood, we’ve had no complaints about our creation.

This look better than many toilets I have encountered in State Parks. You are doing a great job Judy.

@JudyEv Digging the ground is a very hard work, I should not, because of a problem to my right shoulder, but I do when no one is around to see what I do.

@LadyDuck Although I am always pleased to see Vince come home, I do all sorts of things when he is away - things that he wouldn't want me to do if he were home.

That is what is intriguing - you women doing jobs that you will only see labourers doing it here. I have no words to express my admiration for you

@allknowing I used to do a lot of manual work. I've lost weight since these photos - not that I'm vain or anything!

@Janet357 Not so much this time. The money from the concerts goes to the musicians. They get to make some money and the audience gets to enjoy the music.

It functions really well. Before each concert it is thoroughly swept and cleaned then fitted out with all the doings - toilet paper, soap, paper towels, etc.

Over the years we often couldn't afford to have others do things for us so we learnt to be creative and work out cheap ways to achieve what we wanted.

Sorry but I didn't actually state in the discussion that the toilet was put in place about a decade ago and has been serving us well ever since. Today we have to put up the lights and make sure we can work the sound system.

@JudyEv Ah. A minor detail. I should have assumed that since you did say that this was not your first concert, certainly the folks had a place to relieve themselves long before this post.

@judyev Such extraordinary lengths you go to for the comfort of your guests. I do hope Emily appreciates your hard work when she has recourse to use the dunny. I suppose you can put the potty on ebay afterwards as a piece of celebrity memorabilia - that should fetch a good bit of cash. My cousin who was a police officer had the lovely job of checking out every potty our dear queen used on a two day visit to NI many years ago. As soon as Louise declared the potty safe and bomb free her maj went in to do her business and then Louise went in again to make sure nothing had been left behind. She has in her collection now three tablets of soap with which the majestic hands were washed.
