Weight Loss Update & December Goals

Okay, I want to update on my weight loss so far on "low carb". In the first week I did lose 6 pounds or so (I know it was water weight though). Since then I have not really lost any. I go up and down the same few pounds. I get so discouraged when I step on the scale and don't see the number go down even though I was sticking to the diet, not eating too many calories, etc... I know what my troubles are.... Laziness. I need to start working out. When I first was diagnosed with diabetes, I worked out daily. Eventually I was working out twice a day for an hour or 2 each time. I wasn't doing low carb, just was tracking calories. --I lost 75 pounds that time (gained it all back now though). Not enough water. I am drinking throughout the day, but not usually plain water. Heck, not even flavored. I am probably dehydrated. So I need to work on that. Another thing is going back and forth from low carb to high carb or sometimes a mix. --- SO.....I need to make some goals. They will go with each of those things.... For DECEMBER my goals are: Work out at least 4 Days a week for an hour. Eventually I can work up to daily, and then longer workouts (or even twice a day). Drink more water ~ At least the recommended 8 glasses to start Stop going back and forth between the low carb days and high carb days. I know there are a few days I am going to want to have a cheat day (Christmas, shopping day, and next Saturday) ~ But try not to have any other cheat days. Next year I will start working on cutting out the cheat days even more. In January I will start adding my green smoothies back in (spinach, berries, unsweetened chocolate, erythritol, unsweetened almond milk). I want to try to add other vegetables into my diet to make Keto work for the rest of my life. I want to get off all the meds I am on, and NOT get started on insulin which is the next step if my a1c gets high again. Photo via Pixabay

Go for two half hour walks a day and drink lots of water.

I find walks boring, I'd rather actually do my work outs, it's just doing them that is the trouble lol.

@MommyOfEli2013 walking can be boring, but if you take music with you, it might help you do it without an issue. plus makes the time go faster, that's what I do.

@Courtlynn It's too cold now to go walking lol....I can do work outs in my own living room with music That is a good idea though!

I was never really into drinking water, until about 4 years ago. Now its mostly what I drink. I'm not good with diets, because im already a picky eater. And I hate exercise. Always have. Though i do like the feeling i have after im done with it. I've tried using slimquick in the past, with just doing 45-60mins walking on a treadmill and i lost 16 pounds in 2-3 weeks. then i was stuck with hardly losing anything. for some people its easy to lose, but for some its not. you just have to keep trying new things until you find something that works for you. i wish you luck.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yeah, after drinking it so much when i was exercising, plus with it being mostly what i had to drink for 4 years when i was going to my boyfriends, it just became a thing. but there are many times i get sick of having no flavor so i have a cup of chocolate milk or koolaid.. or when i go out i get Tropicana lemonade if its an option. my water has to be really cold too. nice to know another picky eater :). really? its been around for years.. i actually have a bottle of the pills in my closet, cause i haven't been exercising to take them. Thanks.. being on the depo shot for Birth control kinda doesn't help with losing weight, as that's the only reason why I've gained and my weight just stays the same now, been this way for about 3 years. right, it really makes me feel like im doing something wrong, when really, there is no wrong way to try to lose, as long as you're trying.

@Courtlynn Well that is good that it became a thing, because drinking it is very important (so they say, lol...just kidding I know it is) It is nice to have some flavor once in a while. Sometimes I will add the sugar free water enhancers...but I know we need plain water as well. Yes it is! I am used to hearing people tell me that I need to eat my vegetables...but they don't understand what it is like to be a picky eater! Yeah...I have heard of slimfast, but not slimquick! Oh yes...those kind of things can make it harder to lose weight for sure! I am on birth control too (not the same kind) so that could be part of my issue too! I used to lose weight just by working out a ton and eating a certain amount of calories. I was going to say it doesn't work now, but I haven't done the exercising consistently to find out lol.

That's interesting, that you changed to drinking mostly water now...just got used to it? I like my diet soda too much, even though it's not good for you. I don't mind water as long as it is ice cold. I hear you, I am a picky eater too! Dieting is so hard when you are picky, makes what you can eat even more limited! Yes! The feeling after a work out is nice....just the dread before doing it is what stinks! I haven't heard of slimquick....that's good that you lost that amount, Sorry to hear about the plateau after that. Sooo true, that makes it even more discouraging; seeing others lose so easily! But thank you for the luck! I will try these goals and see if they help any, if not I'll revise them in January

I have a similar issue, with no extra weight to lose. Keeping my A1C down where it's suppose to be, so I don't lose my eyesight, develop kidney failure, or have amputations. Diabetes is considered a sneaky disease, the damage is still going on, even when we are feeling pretty good.

@MommyOfEli2013 After being on Metformin for six years, my A1C is down to 5.7 which is good. It has never been extremely high, I think 6.7 was my highest test.

@kobesbuddy That's good to hear, 5.7 is really good! I was glad when I went down to 6.2. That's good that you haven't been extremely high, it's no fun! When I was diagnosed I think I was 13 something (or maybe just 11 , hard to remember).

Yes it is, especially since you can have it and not even know it. Keeping the A1c in good ranges is not easy either! So best wishes to you too!

Yeah you definitely have a lot of high carb days for someone trying to do keto and someone worried about their blood sugar levels.

@NJChicaa That's why I have been having more high carbs day than I wanted. Hopefully making these goals will help, eventually I want to stop the cheat days altogether.

I would recommend you to what I mostly do that is if it's ok with you.... I go for dancing classes... I prefer walking than getting on a bus... I always carry water everywhere.... I get enough sleep.... I drink enough water when going to sleep... Eat small quantities of food so that during dinner or lunch am not too hungry ... that really worked for me

The importance here for weight loss is calorie deficit by default. Low carb or high carb...whatever. Start at 2,000 calories a day and subtract 200 every month. Make that your daily goal and your weight loss will be steady and it will stay off. Of course add in exercise and as that continues to progress you will balance out. It is good that you have identified your troubles though! In all honesty you could eat garbage and lose weight. I can appreciate that you take your health into consideration.

Yes, I do know that is what matters no matter what kind of way of eating you do. I lost 75 pounds before without touching a vegetable...so yes don't have to eat the healthiest to lose weight for sure! Thanks for the advice. I have already cut down the calories, so need to just work out now lol.
