What is your favorite holiday food or drink?

There are certain foods and drinks that we seem to eat only at the holiday times. I really love those peanut butter cookies that have the chocolate kisses in them. I don't dare make them though..as I am afraid far too many would end up in my stomach and eventually on my hips! I like almost all holiday foods, even fruitcake, although that is one that is really not worth the calories in my opinion..so I might have a slice at a party but I don't plan to buy it again. The only holiday food I am not crazy about are pizzelles, although they are OK, and rum balls which are sometimes too strong, or things with candied fruit in other than fruitcake. Eggnog, mulled cider, wine..etc..all good with me! What says the holidays to you?

Pavlova's look awesome, although I don't think I have ever had one. I would be interested in trying it. Seafood and cheesecake..yum!

@snowy22315 Pavlovas were slow and a bit painful to make and didn't always work so well but now you can buy perfect ones very made.

I love the good old fashioned sugar cookies, with frosting. Also, I look forward to the peanut brittle, it's one of my favorite treats.

I love fruit, but not that cheap candied fruit they sell alot at the holidays, and sometimes make their ways into cookies and the like.

@snowy22315 I've made a few casseroles already this year. Okay, well, maybe you could call them "everything but the kitchen sink put in a casserole dish" but what have you.
I made a tater tot casserole for the first tiime this year and loved it. In fact, I am not sure why I didn't think to get the stuff to make another on Sunday. Oh well.

I like fruitcake! :o) We have a lot of special holiday dishes here in the Philippines, and I do like most of them. But I'd always come home to fruitcake. When I was a wee little girl, one of my Christmas faves were those little chocolate bars with liquor in them.

@almostoveryou I think in most stores, you have to be a certain age to buy them actually.

@snowy22315 Haha. Yes, you are right. I had to sneak a few 'cause our parents wouldn't let us have them.

@CarolDM I haven't ever had potato salad at Christmas, to me that is more of a picnic food. Cold weather foods are usually in order. Of course rolls are always good..

I make a no-bake pumpkin pie that's really good. I saw the recipe in a magazine many years ago and have made it every year since. Not this year though, and probably not last year either. It's a diet thing. I did find the pie in the store for the first time called pumpkin cream pie and bought it so my son would have it for Thanksgiving. He took it home with him, saving me the temptation.

Some fruitcakes are much better than others. A few years ago I bought one from an Abbey. It came in a nice silver cake tin. I wonder where that thing is? The tin I mean, not the cake! lol
