Using inappropriate language

The other day we took our granddaughter out for dinner. The waitress used the "f" work because he couldn't figure something out. I was quite offended but before I could say anything my 10 year old grand daughter spoke up and said "that is very inappropriate." He never even apologized. When we were eating she said I would like to talk to the manager because nobody should talk that way at work in front of customers. I was quite proud of her for speaking up. I agreed. There is a time and place for everything and that wasn't the time or the place.
Would you be offended if somebody who served you swore in front of you, your children or grandchildren?

I do agree that it was not appropriate to speak that way, especially in a professional setting and in front of a child.

That is certainly not appropriate in any retail situation.

Yes I would be offended. Your granddaughter is a very bright girl. Did you let her talk to the manager?

Isn't it amazing that a little girl recognized and had to speak up about the unprofessionalism of that worker. She'll go far.
Did she speak with the manager? He may want her resume for a job when she's old enough with strong worth ethics and morales such as that.

If someone swore in front of my two children I would complain to the manager. Well done to your 10 year old grand daughter for saying that is inappropriate. My sister's husband was born in England and his family emigrated to Canada when he was a child. Movies say a movie contains strong language like that word said in front of your grand daughter. He calls swearing weak language and I tend to agree. Congratulations to your clever and well spoken grand daughter.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't be eating in a place where the wait staff thought it was OK to use that kind of language..Bravo for your granddaughter! It seems she knows right from wrong.

@snowy22315 maybe the guy is new and the manager doesn't know he is acting this way so it's good Laurels granddaughter spoke up and told the manager.

Of course. Your granddaughter even at 10 is quite grown up and knows right from wrong but other children or smaller children just pick up the bad words and then think it is alright to use them. That waiter should have been severely reprimanded.

When I first saw your comment, I thought you knew her granddaughter too. Are you saying that your own daughter, Paige, is no longer with us? Sorry to hear about that if I'm understanding you correctly.

@MarshaMusselman I don't know Laurel's grand daughter, just admire her based on this story. Thankyou, I lost my daughter to cancer, some years ago.

@paigea so sorry for your loss. No doubt my grand daughter will grow up to be strong and thoughtful just like your daughter was. I am very proud of her.

your granddaughter is one smart cookie. I know most people curse, it happens, but yes that's definitely inappropriate for the workplace, especially in front of someone so young. For them to not even say sorry, how rude!

I wholly agree. And I congratulate your granddaughter. I am offended because now all movies are plagued by inappropriate language.

I would find it inappropriate is this were to happen, and I'm even more disappointed the waiter didn't apologize. Letting it slip is one thing. Not offering an apology is something else. Sadly, as our society has grown more coarse such things are more common. In some communities such language is commonplace and not even considered inappropriate these days.
