This has apparently been a "thing" for months now but it has only hit our local news recently. It is some kind of disturbing online challenge that children access online through Facebook or WhatsApp (whatever that is).
They see a freaky image of a face with bulging eyes and a creepy smile. It gives them challenges to perform and they get harder and more dangerous/violent as they progress. At some point the kids are supposed to provide photographic evidence that they have performed the stunt before they can move on to the next one. "Momo" threatens the children that he/she will stab them in the face if they don't complete the challenge. Supposedly the final task is to kill yourself. Several suicides (not in the US) are suspected to be due to this sick viral "game".
I had never heard of this until 2 days ago. This just reinforces to me my belief that no child before high school age needs anything more than a flip phone and they don't need to be on social media.
Have you heard about this?

I think I saw that face when I was scrolling through my news feed the other day. These challenge games are just horrible, stupid, ignorant, and sickening. Not just this one, which is sadistic, but all of them.

"Prompts warnings to parents." If the parents actually gave a damn about actually being parents, this sort of stuff wouldn't exist in the first place.

I totally agree with you! If i had a child I would get them a phone once they turn 16, or even 17, not before. I haven't read about this sick and spooky challenge before, but it needs to be banned! Hope most people spread the word about this so we all could be aware of this :( thanks for sharing it is useful to be informed about such a horrible social media trend :S
