Each One Has A Student's Name On It

I got my haircut yesterday, or as my dad would joke, all of my hairs cut yesterday. When the cutting was done, I noticed there seem to be a lot more silver in my hair. I tell my students that every gray hair I have has a students name on it. Oddly enough, they take a certain pride in thinking I'll always remember them when I look at my gray hair. Some have asked me if I plan to color the gray. No, I do not. My mother's father had a full head of silver/gray hair his whole life. I always told God that if he would let me keep my hair I'd let Him choose the color. Will you or do you color your hair if you spot gray or do you let nature take its course?

I have let nature win, at least for now.

My missus fights nature and it's an ongoing battle.

@wolfgirl569 My wife was blessed with slow-growing hair, though she didn't consider it a blessing when she was young. The gray doesn't start showing for a few weeks.

@DWDavis I did try coloring mine. That got expensive as about a week after doing it the grey would start peeking through. I have thought about going with a bright color and then the grey would be a great high light

Nature is taking its course with us both and God has chosen silvery-grey for us too.

I see it as a sign of success. We've survived long enough for it to turn.

@DWDavis True and another good thing is that we are now too old to die young.

As my husband always says, “Grass doesn’t grow on a busy street.” Mine I color.

Grass may not grow on a busy street and that's why I keep my head out of the road, LOL.

This is true but think of all the money you're saving on shampoo.

Hair color chemicals have improved a great deal over the years and the smell is not as bad as it once was. The coloring our friend uses in my wife's hair leaves behind no discernable odor.

I do nothing, but do tell the world, will wear what ever it gives me as a badge of honor. Just like the kids. You did this to me, and they say I do not try. My hair has receded badly so I just shave it. It always gets mixed reviews. Even when it started happening people were, no your hair was cool. I know, now shut up. I am devastated enough. Through the years people have grown to my shaved more than bald head but when I show them my old ID, you get the point. I just stopped. Nope never showing anyone again. The last time my lady bartender had to call out of my lady friend. Stop, You making me uncomfortable. Who Knew?

My mother is in her early 80s and still colors her hair. My father's hair is thin but he has barely any gray. I'll take thick and gray over thing and dark.

@dwdavis I don’t care what my hair looks like because I don’t have to look at it.

I wouldn't worry about it but my students take great pleasure in mentioning how much gray hair I have.

I have noticed a few more gray hairs are starting to creep into my otherwise dark brown scalp. I always admired my Dad's whitish hair and if that is the direction mine is headed I won't mind at all. Some say grey hair is a sign of wisdom so I'll take any help I can in that department, lol.

If people understood the harsh chemicals it takes to color their hair, I think many more would choose to go natural.

Hi there :) I color my hair for 10 years now and so far it wasnt because it had grey hair, but I have to admit, ash grey is the color I was trying to get for 3 years in the row and I failed. So, few days ago I noticed 1 grey hair in my eyebrows and I can tell you I will just stop hair coloring my hair as of from now. One day I will have grey hair and there is no shame in that, your students are proud because your hair, if caused by them mean all time and all efforts and attention that you gave to them, not to mention all wasted nerves lol so they appreciate it, same way as they appreciate their moms for all sleepless nights and all other stuff. Be proud, you gave so much from your inner you that is visible even on the outside :)

I very much like the way you described the reason for my gray hair. You are right. I will wear it as a badge of honor.
