Would it bother you if a friend or family member used marijuana fairly regularly?

MyLot has members of varying ages and varying cultural backgrounds. I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, and there were a lot of illegal recreational drugs there in the 1970s and 1980s. I was not a big "head" or (later term) "stoner," but I had lots of friends who were. I got stoned some weekends, but not regularly.
Now, with recreational marijuana legal in California, any of us (adults) can waltz into a "marijuana store" and buy anything from "will get you really stoned" pot to "will reduce your back pain" pot. I have some (college) students who have told me in their psychology papers that they get stoned regularly (I don't judge them). But most of the stoners I see are baby boomers, in their 60s and 70s.
Anyway, would it bother you if your husband, wife, family member, friend, or colleague used marijuana fairly regularly? I'm curious about cultural differences in this area.

Its not legal here but I heard a law was passed for people to grow and sell under certain "big brother" watching deals. I would love to get into this part, making the money, because pot is big business. I know, I know always the business woman. I have not had time to look into the fine print.
However, with that being said I am not comfortable because its illegal.
Now..... If I lived where it is legal, I have no problems with it as long as they can keep up their habit.
As for my younger years? You`ll have to read the book when I write it.

Gee that's a tough one. Personally I wouldn't want to get stoned but I had a brother who was a big pot head. I don't know if I'd want to live with someone who used it regularly but have no objection to the occasional use.

Our eldest uses it every night to get to sleep. I don't know if he uses it other times but I don't think so. We don't ask. He has anxiety and depression issues which I think might have been brought on by its use but that's only my opinion. He would have started as a teenager I guess.

Exactly. I'd never get stoned before work. But I DID do an experiment on myself a couple of years ago. I "got stoned" BEFORE writing a (college) handout on a data analysis technique called "chi square." It did NOT undermine my ability to write clearly about statistics. I was surprised.

@andriaperry I did a similar experiment when I was 14, actually. I wrote down my most "profound" thoughts when I was "stoned," and then read them the next day when I was "straight." My thoughts were exactly the same as they had been when I was "straight." They just SEEMED more vivid and profound.

Someone in my extended family is a regular user, unless he's changed. It does bother me, but as long as he doesn't use it when he's here or driving, I accept that he does it. He knows we don't condone it just because we accept it.

@TheHorse I don't think there's a medical reason. Substance abuse runs in the family, though the others have conquered it. his mom, dad, and brother have cleaned up their acts. He's the youngest and still in college. I'm hoping he'll discover what it's doing to his brain before it's too late. My brother had to get clean before he realized what it had done to his thinking processes.

If it was for recreational purposes I would not approve. If it was for any reasonable medicinal purpose that's a whole different story.

It is also legal here. I dont use it and neve4 have but i dont judge others whi do. I know many people who snoke it on a regular basis and did so long before it was legalized.

No it doesn't bother me. I know people who still do. It's just not for me anymore. As long as they're not harming themselves or others then it's their choice, if they're happy smoking then let em.

@TheHorse yeah I guess that can be an issue. However there are some who only seem to function while stoned. I think it depends on the person sometimes

I would say unless it was for a medical reason..yes. It's just an escape from reality. My son used to smoke as a teen, and i found it worrisome as his brain was still developing. He doesn't use it any more as an adult though.

If it makes them stink then yes.No one wants to breathe that in if they don't have glaucoma.

I used to not worrying too much about this sort of hobby in others. I have begun to observe people who smoke this in the last five years however after finding out that some of my relatives were aggressive and violent to their wives and children while they were under the influence. Perhaps everything was just coincident...

Provided they didn't overdo it and become troublesome and also they did not do it in my house I would not say anything.
