I slept really hard last night. Very deeply. I think my stomach feels better this morning. We may try to do what we had planned for yesterday, but first, I am meeting a friend for coffee in a little bit. Since I am unsure of what today will hold, I have been here a while, visiting. Nice to see all of you. Have a great day. I am thinking about food traditions that we have. Not sure what tradition hubby has, but on New Years Day I will eat black eyed peas for luck. He says he does not like them. Just for Bob, I will put jalapenos in the beans I make. So, do you have any traditions about New Years and food?

He should avoid jalapenos until his stomach is not better. We eat lentils for luck.

@LadyDuck I don't think I have ever had them but I know my mother loves them. She adds them to some kind of Crock-Pot meal.

@shaggin I like lentils, I should make them more often. I remember I made lentil patties and they were good. I think I found the recipe on an Indian cooking book.

I am wanting to eat more beans all the time. We met a lady who was getting IV treatment when Bob was getting his transfusion. She says she cured her diabetes by eating some kind of bean or another every day.

Glad you feel better, but I’m not sure Bob should be eating jalapeños. No food traditions here.

He has already been eating his salsa. I think if he has something else in his stomach first and it is not a lot he will be okay. One of my mom's friends who had an ulcer claimed that spicy food would burn it out. LoL. He is eating less spicy food right now.

We don't have traditions. I don't believe that we will have good luck if we do certain things.

I do not really believe in luck, but do this because my family always did.

Our tradition on new year is to prepare 12 or more kinds of fruits that symbolize money to attract the good vibes for the coming year, we also prepare round candies and wear polka dots, as the year end @ 12mn we shake the coins and light the fountains.

It sounds delicious to have all that fruit. I would wear polkadots, but I am not sure my husband would.

That is such a neat tradition! Is that something your family came up with or is that a common tradition where you live?

@shaggin its a common family tradition. Our immediate family are visiting the house before and after the newyear to have some snacks.

@wolfgirl569 I'm not a big fan of cabbage so I don't think I would want to eat that as a tradition every year

@wolfgirl569 I can have sauerkraut, got some in the fridge. That would be good with a side of black eyed peas, cornbread, and maybe some brats.

I actually don't have any but my sister-in-law does. She always fixes black-eye pears for New Years. I am not sure why but she has always done it.

I guess it is not totally widespread. Black eyed peas or a dish made with them is a southern tradition I think.

I know some places get a little fancier and add greens or veggies and rice. They call it Hoppin John, but we always just had canned black eyed peas. I am going to cook dried ones though.
