Do You Like Parades? I Do!

When I was a child in Missouri, my parents used to take me to the Veiled Prophet Parade in St. Louis. I was mesmerized. It happens about the same time of year as Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
As a young woman, I drove myself across country to San Francisco after college, got a job and made new friends. My first New Year's Eve, my friends suggested we all go to Pasadena, near Los Angeles, for the Rose Bowl Parade. We slept on the sidewalk and had fun watching the parade the next morning. I still remember the smell of the flowers.
After I was married, my husband and I moved to Dallas and raised our children. We sometimes took them to the Cotton Bowl parade in downtown Dallas.
We lived in the Highland Park area of Dallas and our children often participated in the fun Fourth of July parade in that town. One of our daughters even won "Most Patriotic Tricycle" when she was about 4 years old! LOL
Our family has always enjoyed watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the New Year's Day Rose Bowl Parade on TV.
My husband and I now live in Southern California and last year we went to see all the Rose Bowl floats with one of our adult daughters. The smell of all those gorgeous flowers brought back fun memories. The float in the photo above was one of the floats we saw that day.
Even though I am almost 70, I have decided I am not too old to enjoy a good parade. On New Year's Day this year, I will be watching the Rose Bowl Parade once again from the comfort of my warm living room! LOL

That is a beautiful picture. Our most famous parade is the Republic day parade where there are many tableaus and bands

@eliza_gotdinez12 - The floats in the Rose Bowl parade are unusually beautiful. They work on them for months before the parade each year.

That is a lovely float in the photo. I do love parades but have not seen too many. I always watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV even when I lived in NYC and I love seeing the Rose Bowl Parade and another favorite on TV was the Hollywood Christmas Parade.

@RasmaSandra - Oh, I live here near Los Angeles, and I forgot about the Hollywood Christmas Parade! I have seen that on TV, too, but I have never gone there personally.

I love parades. I have been meaning to ask you about Elizabeth Wallace. If you see her say hello for me.

@Tampa_girl7 - I certainly will! I see her once a month and regularly communicate with her by text or email. We have a regular monthly lunch together with another woman. She has been very busy promoting her book "Free College" about how children can increase their chances of getting scholarships.

@JohnRobert - I agree that it is the big one. The Rose Bowl parade is unique because every inch of every float has to be covered either in flowers or other plant material, like rice or ground up leaves. The floats are gorgeous and smell wonderful. Have you ever gone to see the parade or the floats afterwards?

@YrNemo - These floats are all out in the open air. However, I am sure some people stay far away!

@DeborahDiane I wonder about the people who got hay fever and sneeze. I love flowers with scents, but I sneeze sometimes if the area is enclosed. (Open air is fine I guess.)

@porwest - Ha ha! Golf is the only sport my husband watches on TV. I always think of it as the perfect time for me to read a book or take a nap ... not much happening! LOL

@porwest - I totally understand that. I do not like to actually go to them anymore, because of all the crowds and traffic. But I still like to watch on TV the big parades like the Rose Bowl and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

@DeborahDiane Watching a parade on TV might be worse. But then I watch very little TV at all anyway. It would be like watching golf. "Oh look, he swung at a ball again."

@jstory07 - Now that I am older, it is more comfortable to watch them on TV. I like them either way!
